What is the stall speed on a stock D5 in an 87 GN? Having converter rebuilt and want to make sure I know stock stall.
Thanks,Steve

The DA8D code would be the 2025 stall and the DB8D code would be 1996 according to GM. They will vary since the turbo brings torque up and makes it stall higher. Same converter in the MCSS, and Olds 442/Hurst/Olds applications.

Published stall speeds use a fixed torque input for all models, so they are typically lower than what a turbo buick can achieve. I think they were rated at 2025, most mildly modded cars can acheive 2400ish. Restalls can hit 2800. If you're having it opened up you may as well have it restalled to as high as they can do it, especially if using a bigger turbo. Not a huge difference when loosened but it does help especially when brake torquing it off the line.

OOPS!! The code I gave was for a 700 with the D as the first digit. The 200c and the 2004R is the C code. A CBCF would be a 2004R, 1996 stall, 300ft/lb with 28 degrees of travel on the lockup clutch and 3 lugs/245mm style. They will stall higher than the advertised stall on the GM models.

Would be a factory high stall converter, 2025rpm. CBCF is aftermarket code.

Well it was sold to me as a stock D5 to use in a GN, so will this converter even work in a 200-4R? According to that web site it is for a 700R4. Do they interchange?

Sorry, I didn't make that more clear. I used the 700R4 link because the 2004R link didn't show the converter code list at the top of page.
2004R & 700R4 used the same 27 spline input untill 85.
85 & up the 700R4 switched to a 30 spline input shaft.
All 2004R's have 27 spline.
