Yea, my bmw was dam reliable. I admit. But as the professional mechanics here will tell you, if it's made by man, it WILL break down. And when it does, what's it gonna be. A 300 dollar T-stat? A 1800 dollar torque converter? Or a 5.99 T-stat and a 30 minutes worth of work... You decide.
The way I look at is, it's robbing money from Sophie. (my gn) My window motor costs 265 dollars on my bmw.. So guess what. I pinched the window track with a pair of sheetmetal workers vice grips, and called it a day. Those vice grips made the window stay up... and the 265 dollars? Well Sophie got that. I can't be moddin my gn, if my freakin car's repair bills start costin as much a stage motor... Not worth it.
EVERY car breaks down.. but when you're drivin' an import, ya better have a good credit card on ya buddy...

Maybe you guys need to "shop around" more. I had Audi quote me $1200 for a timing belt. I bought all the same parts online and did it myself for $300.
The ABS went out and I was quoted near $800. Went online and had it fixed for about $150 or so IIRC.

With highline cars, expect highline prices. But, never be afraid of the internet. I'm pretty sure parts for the E55 could have been purchased much cheaper.

Can I see what a 200 dollar thermostat looks like? Thats insane.

I do believe the higher cost is SOMEWHAT justified. Compare the fit/finish/quality/performance/ANYTHING of your E55 to any "normal" car.....the Benz is in a class of its own.

But a 200$ thermostat is hilarious.

The problem is they do not make a drop in 180 t-stat,There is a guy who buys stock ones, and orders the peices from germany to custom make these.
still seems a little high, butno choice if you want it.

You obviously have the money so good for you enjoy that over priced ****.

This is why I stay away from these high dollar cars, yes they are nice but its just morally wrong in my book to pay extra for metal or plastic because it comes with a fancy stamp on it.
1-Are the materials on this specific part rare or unattainable other wise?
2-Did god him self put his touch on the part?
3-Does it come with a lifetime replacement warranty with no restrictions?
AHH forget it I am just a cheap fock. That doesn’t understand how anything works especially over priced fancy stuff.
I liked BMWs and BENZs
But I got lucky my older brother one of each before I did and after watching him pay $375.00 for spark plug wires for the BMW and $600.00 for a sensor for the BENZ I just turned away and lost all interest in those cars

BTW The price of Metal at the local recycling center is .035 cents a pound.
Good luck with your build.

The AMG differential is only an AMG diff, not a standard Mercedes part, they are probably pricey as there is not a huge demand for them.
It is what it is,Im not bitching at all,it will be here tomorrow.

Searched the best price,They start at 1795 at most places,I got it 2 day shipped from Cali for 1300,Install means nothing as I do everything myself

Funny that Notacarlo isn't posting in this thread about how much Freightliner parts cost? Freightliner is owned by Daimler isn't it? Now there's a funny Buy American quip for you. You figure it out.

All I have to say to Otto is......well that's how the old Mercedes bends..isn't it?

We did the install on the Wires and sensor, that was for parts only at shop prices.

How did the install go?

Ur entertainment system is still outside my house. I put it under a plastic cover in case it rains so u can come get it whenever.

Compared to my last few project cars which were obsure new just on the market 4 bangers, the turbo buick parts are cheap.

Even the entire car is cheap, I don't know hardly anywhere else you can get a caged 10 sec car (real car, not some piece of **** gutted honda hatchback) for under 10k.

So really you guys have nothing to complain about.
