Hey everyone,

My car will not shift unless I let off the throttle in some gears; also in WOT the car shifts from 1-2 exremely fast and then seems to hold 3? By holding 3 I mean, the car will build boost up to 15psi and rev high; but the car won't move? It seems like im not even flooring it. Could this be caused by the governor spring popping off? Or a misadjusted TV cable? The governor was just installed today, how common is it for the spring to fly off? Thank you.

sounds like the governor may be the wrong one .did you verify it was the correct weight for your application?if you loosen the tv cable to you get a 1/2 without lifting the throttle?could someone have mismatched/misinstalled the shift valve springs in the v body?has it been worked on recently?why did you change the governor?

are you sure it was a good gov. and the balls were seating and sealing?

I know that its a BRF code vb and gov. How do I check if the Governor is good? Also, how do I check if the valves on the valve body are stuck? Anything I should look for on both pieces to make sure they are in good working order? Thanks a bunch!

a quick check of the gov. is to blow in the end and press on the weights to make sure it is sealing and releasing, what about the sealing ring on the end of it, cut missing??? How bout some history on the trans???

Trans was rebuilt recently by the previous owner, but the wrong valve body, gov, speedo were installed (from an 86 monte carlo). We got a tranny from an 86 GN and removed the valve body/gov/speedo and installed it in the current tranny. The 86 GN tranny was pretty gross, all sludgy, so maybe the sludge is making the valve body work improperly? We cleaned it up as best as possible on the exterior but can't get to the inside of it. I realized from making a quick test drive that when I get on it at all, the boost and RPMs build, but the car does not go anywhere. I thought it was just WOT, but apparently even at partial throttle.

Did you try the trans with the monte setup in it??? How sure are you the trans and pump are good? If t vb was from a Monte SS it should work as well for you as the brf. First thing you need to do is check main line pressure.

When the monte vb and gov were in the car, it shifted REALLY early, like at about 3k rpm. Do you think maybe thats because of the gov? Maybe I should swap the monte SS VB back in and keep the BRF Gov in there? The trans currently in the car should be good because it was rebuilt very recently and is in great shape. The donor trans was pretty dirty though.

I forgot to mention that when I swapped the BRF valve body into the CR tranny, I did not use the BRF metal separator, I kept the same separator that was on the CR tranny. I don't know if its called the separator or not, I just know that there is a gasket on top of the valve body, and a metal piece ontop of the gasket which is what I am calling the separator. Is this what could be causing the problem? I didn't want remove that separator because the bearings are seated in it, and I dont wanna lose them because I dont know where they go exactly haha..

After doing some research on this board, I read that the accumulator springs, PR valve line up, Separator plate are all BR specific. All that was swapped into the CZ transmission is the Valve body itself (without the same CZ sep. plate), Governor, and Speedometer gear. Where do I locate the accumulator springs/PR valve line up? Are they separate from the VB/Gov? Would this cause my problem? Thanks!
