I am getting ready to rebuild my 231 stock bottom end. I have had previous problems with my torque convertor ballooning and destroyed my crank. I am going to buy a new crank anyways so i figured I would buy a stroker crank but i havent really heard much about this in the buick scene? I was just wanting some advice on the advantages / disadvantages of stroking the 231 engine? I plan on GN1 heads, TE-44 turbo, 50# inj, etc ...
Basically I am looking to run mid 10's.

Thanks for any help,

Dave

I beleive this to be a good idea. I have talked about it with another person. I do beleiev that the block has to be clearanced and of course a set of caps and girdle would b a great Idea. The only new cranks I have seen though are very expensive stroke or not. 2200 bucks for a new forged crank is alot of money. If you are going to spend that, why not do a stroker. The extra cubes can only help you. Let me know what you pay for the crank as I might be interested in one too. Sometimes a couple will help bring the price down a little. Also will need rods and of course pistons. Not cheap but a good idea.

I know a few people that actually destroked their stage 2 motors so they could spin them up to 7500 rpm. The 274 became a 222.

CRANKY

A South West (Arizona ??) GN/TR parts guy post on this website Check in "members" for Nick Micale and his email add.
He has been working on an inexpensive source for forged V6 cranks, based on the "GROUP PURCHASE" scenario.

Stroking can be effective for HP and RPM gains but be prepared for $$ and time to matching pistons to rods, and heads to new pistons (and so on and so on).....

For the amount of money and time you would have in it you would be better off to to build a stage one off center . You will have the same amount of money in it minus the cost of the block. Plus if you go stage you can go up to 272 + cubic inches for the same money it would cost to go maybe 245-250 on a stock block. And you would still have a wek stock block ans only 8 head bolts to keep the gaskets in place. And on top of that you will need way more turbo than a 44 and way more injectors than 50's.
Bottom line is it will cost you maybe $2500 more to build a stage one that will stay together and have more cubic inches.
