Stronger fans from other cars?

I'd get the dual fan setup from ramchargers. For about $100 brand new w/plug-n-play harness I wouldn't waste my time with a used fan setup unless your getting it free. The f-body LS1 fans are pretty good, don't know if they pull any more air than the ramcharger unit though and they may not fit on a TR...I have them on my truck and they are as wide as my truck radiator is, but not as tall.
Sorry, my point is that the temp readin you are getting. I believe the scanmaster reading may be slightly off. In cool weather with the fans on high, new aluminum radiator, I can't get the temp below 167. I have a 160 stat. Either the stat is off, the reading is off, or a combination. Your 170 reading isn't bad at all and may be a bit cooler actually.
Scott: You have a valid point. I have a Griffin 2-core Alum. rad. w/
160* stat and startup goes to 185* then to 160*. It runs
between 167* and 171* on scanmaster. On the highway,
it stays around 168*-170* at 91* ambient.
I've seen posts that had others running around 164*.

Ramchargers sells it for cheaper than you will find an intrepid fan ANYWHERE. Good luck finding an Intrepid in the junyard that the motor didn't go through the fan.
It keeps our 502/502 at 160 even idling in 100 degree heat in traffic.
I was planning on using a pair of the 15" Spals from NASCAR's sold by http://www.musclemotorsports.com/cooling-fans---acces-used-electric.html Only thing I'm worried about is the amp draw, hense wanting to make a custom fan relay set that uses the factory Hi-Lo setting to kick only one on and then both. I've also heard Caprice 9C1 and Ford P71 Crown Victoria persuit fans are very good but high amp draw. Also something to consider, how loud are they so you don't sound like you have a 747 on take off in traffic.

I have had excellent results with the duals from ranchargers.. and they plugged right in to my Ttypes harness
The twin fans from any f body work awesome.
I have them on my 700+ Hp stang and our
800+ HP Reher Morrison powered BBC Elky
both are street cars and sport the LS1/LT1 dual fans

Boy...decisions, decisions, decisions. Intrepid fans are hard to
come by. I did notice some nice single fans on those 3.8 Ford
Taurus. I also noticed most luxury cars run two fans, seems
like a pusher and puller. The Intrepid fan does look like the
Ramchargers fan, except one motor is longer than the other.

First off it would be good to know the cfm rating for a stock fan and compare from there.
I have a pair of intrepid fans here and you will need to fabricate some brackets and the motor on the passenger side will interfere with my 3'' intercooler pipe.
I.M.O. a good unplugged rad would be the first thing to upgrade and the stock fan with a manual switch will do the trick!

I received my Ramcharger fan and modified it a bit to fit my
Griffin Rad, It's a 1/2" wider. I pluged it in and I'm not impressed.
It's quiet and my temps still cycle between 160* and 173*.
The stock fan at high speed seems to move more air in my
opinion, It's alot louder too!
Is the silent Ramchargers unit at high speed or do I have to modify the wiring?

How are you reading your temp?
Your temp guage / sender unit may be off .......... ?????
There are a few ways to verify the guage. PITA I know, but suspect ..........
If you used the plug-n-play wiring harness from RC, its wired so it only operates at high speed...it can be modified to run both low and high. I'm very impressed with mine, it is much quiter, but with my factory original 18 year old radiator, I had temps below 180 sitting idling for 10 minutes today in 95 degree heat...with the stocker it was more like 200+ degree coolant temp if I did that. There's more surface area with the dual RC fan than a stocker as far as area under the blades, so the stocker may blow a little harder but the air is being pulled thru a smaller area instead of being pulled thru a larger area...thats how the dual fan is rated at more CFM...big pipe at low pressure rather than smaller pipe at higher pressure.
