what is it worth to sell a supercharger and set of heads off these engines? i am tripping over v6s and small blocks in the garage and want to clean up a little. if it isnt worth much mybrothers 86 lesabre is getting it.

assuming that you are talking about series 2 supercharged l67 parts , I typically sell stock M90 superchargers for $100 + shipping and cylinder heads for the same.

a top swap which would include everything else of a sc engine needed to convert non sc l36 to sc'ed should bring $300-400 plus shipping depending on miles &year

this would include throttle body , intake manifold , fuel rails , injectors , boost bypass valve, boost soleniod all other brackets ,vac lines , accesories etc... from the top 1/2 of the engine as well as the crank hub/harmonic balancer that has the 2nd set of grooves to run the belt , all tensioners & idlers that contact the sc belt , and I include the sc belt also in my top swaps

I bought a new '08 LaCrosse Super and gave my '00 Regal GSE (S/C 3800 Series 2engine) to my son. He now tells me the S/C serpentine belt broke and he doesn't want to replace it. He thinks his mileage will improve without it. Does anyone know if running the engine without the S/C belt could cause engine damage, especially when the engine needs boosting? The belt is, of course, dedicated to only running the supercharger.

it wont hurt it with the belt off , I have had my wife run hers with no belt until I felt like making the time to replace a bad idler , ran it a few weeks.

a coworker that had a gs I looked under his hood and noticed no belt and no turning sc , no remains of a belt apparently he had bought it that way a year or so earlier. the engines vacuum will pull the sc over with little effort believe it or not - its only supposed to take 1/2 hp for the belt to turn it when its not under boost - I think its actually much less than that.

you wont have to run premium fuel anymore without boost so you can save a bit when you fill up but overall it will cost him money to run it that way - the sc w bodies get around 30 hwy ( I have a modded one that pulls down 31+) while the na get around 27 so figure an na having to suck those sc lobes around all the time will get less - I think my wifes car was indicating around 21 when the belt was off and returned to high 20's for her mixed use with the sc spinning

recap: running sc premium fuel is a must as it says in the fuel filler door but you get good mileage

running without sc will not hurt anything and allow running 87 octane but cost per mile goes up vs sc /premium

sounds like a good chance to prove to son that dad knows a thing or 2 , pick up a new belt and bring along a breaker bar with a 15mm socket and clear DIC mileage and see where it is at say 65 mph on flat steady cruising then pull over and install belt and repeat , post back if your son is mowing the lawn this year or you lol
