Ok, the other morning at around 3 am, my sister (who lives right next door) saw these two punk kids walking down my driveway (we got a 100 ft. long driveway), where all my cars, tools, etc. are all over the place. They ran off after she saw them. Now I am pissed off and want to have some kind of security/survellience system that will alert me the next time someone dares to step in my driveway so I can take care of business   These punks were probably scoping out my Buick and who knows wtf else they were doing! I dont even know if they stole anything yet..

For the people with experience, what kind of security system do you use?? I was thinking of installing a nighttime survellience camera that activates once motion is detected and gives me a warning. Is there such a thing? Also, maybe just some type of motion detector that at least gives me an alarm to my room so I am alerted?

I know I can put those lights that activate once motion is detected, but I really doubt this will deter any thieves at 4 am when everyone is sleeping. Also, this wouldnt help anyways because my house is on a hill and no-one from the street would be able to see the thieves anyways, so it wouldnt matter if the lights come on...Anyone know of a good motion detection system/details???

Any decent internet spy shop (Even some BestBuys) sell remote infared sensors that can be placed on trees that will alert you when something crosses over it.

A lot of people have them on long driveways to notify them when a car is driving up the driveway. They work for people to. It's simple and cheap.

There are plenty others with many different options such as voice warning to indicate what sensor location in ur yard was set off but this is basically all you need: Optex Wireless 1000 Driveway / Visitor Alarm, RCTD-10U

Wireless warning driveway alarm like Brett mentioned.

Motion sensing lights that also activate a camera and recorder would also be a good idea. If you have 110 Volt A/C power near there that's the best way to go with the lights and when activated they could trigger a camera possibly wireless and low voltage to send pictures back to a secure location in the garage or house with a hard drive or old style VHS recorder.

Don't forget the NO TRESPASSING big red signs as well, in case you shoot someone. ;)

2 big dogs and a CAR 15 work for me. I't is right beside the bed and loaded. Ready to rock and roll anytime and the dogs tell me when to rock. I've had a few suprises but they ran really fast when 500rpm out of the barrel came at them. No joke either.

I know when I am out causing trouble (drinking and walking) the motiom lights will run me off. even when I not doing any thing. camras are good if you miss the people outside but hard to see. maby some beams like the one on grage door. that run could run a chime inside.

Are you guys serious about just lights? You're providing light in the dark! Cool, makes everything so much easier for a Real thief. Almost as good as broad daylight with nobody home. A merc light would be better so it wouldn't have to continually be set off again!

Three things, DOGS, CAMERAS/lights, GUNS in whatever order you like. A good dog isn't necessarily as brave as loud. Different detection paths will help when they skip the driveway altogether and come in for load up with quads. Know your laws before you go shooting somebody on your property.

Not trying to act all smart. Just repeating what other's have learned the hard way.

I think MJ used those in his hallway to alert him of adults.

There are also recordings of barking dogs that can be activated when sensor lights go off. I was fooled for many years by one at a gas station where I work. I swore there was a dog there and it was simply a recording.
