I am placing my T race car on a diet! I am installing the following:

Fiberglass front end, doors, deck lid and bumpers with molded in fillers.

Two racing seats, Chromemolly cage, Lexan front and rear window glass and a 8 gal. fuel cell.

The fiberglass parts are race weight, very light and thin. I have removed the AC and power steering.

Weld draglite wheels.

I was wondering if anyone has weighed a TR with this combo?

You are probably looking at 2900-3000 lbs. but it isn't street legal or a street car at that point. I can see doing a little to reduce weight but in most cases I prefer to just make more power;)

I have two TR's I drive on the street. They both run in the low 11s'. This car will be my race car. I want be driving it on the street. I would like see the weight around 2800#. That would put it in at a little over 3000# with me in the car.

That would be a loss of about 600#. I don't think I will be able to remove that much weight. I know Buddy Cox has glass doors on his GNX. Anyone know what his car weight is?

Are you removing the entire interior, headliner, back seat, door panels, rear panels, setabelts and everything? That would have to be 60 lbs. And lexan in the opera windows should be another 10; that tempered glass is heavy. As for your estimate of 600 lbs, I was thinking 700 the way you are describing it; at least off the top of my small head. The wheels should balance out the cage weight.

John,

I am removing the interior. I might use the plastic panels around the opera windows, they don't weigh much. The fiberglass doors will have aluminum door panels. The cage is chromemolly and does not weigh much at all. Seems to be about half what mild steel weight is.

You've probably already thought of this or have already done it but... You could remove the innner front fender wells, sway bars, heater and related parts, radio, speakers etc... GOOD LUCK!!!
