Was wondering if anyone here has used this and their thoughts on it:

Oiling System Accessories, ADJ OIL PRESSURE REGULATOR, TA_1502 | TAPerformance.com

My oil pressure when cold is over 80 psi and take s a while to come down, so I have to warm the car up for a good 5 minutes or so before driving. When the engine warms up my idle pressure is great and WOT pressure is about 60 psi, which is perfect. Just wanted to see if anyone has used this to lower cold idle pressure with any success. TIA

Have it on both my cars...from my experience it doesn't do anything with idle oil pressure...only cruising and WOT

I know it wont effect HOT idle pressure, but shouldnt it effect COLD idle pressure?

It will affect the oil pressure...... period. The spring does not have anyway to be temperature-compensated.

You can't adjust it to affect the cold idle pressure without changing the warm WOT pressure. So the short answer is "NO" it won't work.

Not trying to knock down the product but all it really does is allow you to use different spring rates without having to unscrew the nut and put a different spring in there and possibly lose the prime...so it works the same way as putting a different pressure spring in there...the spring in there does not affect idle pressure...

I guess I should have worded my question differently. Basically, I just want a way to set a max pressure and was wondering if this would allow me to do that. In other words, I would like the oil to bypass the filter at a set pressure, say 70 psi, so it doesnt go over that amount.

If you want--remove the nut--drill and tap for a 1/4 bolt--now you have an adjustable spring--which is a complete waste of time.

If I'm understanding this correctly, you don't want the oil pressure to go over 70psi no matter what the engine temp is. Again, the short answer is no, you can't set the pressure so it doesn't go over, say 70psi when the engine is cold, and not have low oil pressure after the engine warms up. If you have 60 psi at cruising speeds when the engine is warm, you don't have a problem and I wouldn't worry about the high oil pressure when it is cold. Just don't beat on it until it warms up.

Thanks mikestertwo, I guess Ill just leave it as is and let her warm up. Was just wondering if there was a way around it. Guess its better to have high pressure than low anyway.

FYI, the TA oil pressure regulator does not have anything to do with the filter bypass. This thing allows you to adjust the amount of oil spilled back from the pump discharge back to the pump suction. More spillback, less oil to the engine, results in lower pressure. Same thing as a weaker spring in the spring/piston assembly behind that big nut. That's why if you adjust it to get a lower cold idle pressure you'll also end up with a lower hot pressure. The filter bypass is something completely different, it's a little black nubbin thing inside the oil pump cover.
