Im looking to upgrade my stock turbo in the near future and was considering a ta49 or a te44. The only mods are 009 inj. TT 93 octane street chip Dutt neck intercooler and 3" DP also a pats 10" 3200 stall converter..The car runs very well the way it is set up now, best et. to date 12.86 at 106.I know that the te44 flows better than the 49 but how much better does it perform??..I already have the converter and would like to keep my 009 injectors..Any advice would be a big help..Thanks...........

Can't go wrong with either one. You may get a little more out of the 44 but the 49 is a great turbo also. Both will get you into the 11's in a good combo.

I just got a 44 installed. I must say it is a great upgrade. Jack Cotton sells the te44 as a whole new unit, I think the ta49 is a remanufactured and upgraded stocker unit, so it's not a whole brand new unit.

If you are going to get a 44 turbo buy it from jack cotton.

The one he sells is made by turbonetics and comes standard with a big shaft and polished compressor housing and a 1 year no questions asked warranty and a great price also.

check it out here.

How does that 44 feel? What was in the car prior??
Ken...

newkid87,the 44/49 turbo will be a noticable upgrade and both turbo's are very similar.the 009's are a good match and a 3200 stall will work well with either turbo.

Mis-information?

Both the TE44 and TA49 are identical units (internally), and can be purchased new (although they have been superceded by better designs). The difference being the compressor housings. The 44 having a non stock appearing slightly better flowing compressor housing, the 49 having a stock appearing compressor housing.

I agree that you should contact Jack, I think your combo could support a more aggressive turbo. With that stall convertor I think you could bigger
,the new turbos are better than the 44 and 49, the 44 would be my choice between the two. Stock appearing isn't worth much when you can get more flow for the same money. Good luck with your search.

newkid87,the 44/49 will work with the 009's the cpt61 will require you to upgrade, the 44/49 are tough to beat on stock motors and their track records are proven.

I had the same set up as newkid with exception of alcy injection, with the cpt 61. I ran it for a few months this summer with the 42.5 delphi injectors (same as 009s) Newkid actually has more convertor than I do now. The Cpt-61 will spool up super fast and melt the nittos DRadials. No lag, which I was afraid of, since I had a Cheetah back in 91-92, it was a dog, but also old technology. I have a 2800 stall convertor and it works great with the ball bearing tech. They do spool fast as advertised. I kinda wish I would have gone even bigger since experiencing the ball bearing tech first hand. If I had a 3200 I would have gone bigger. Why not leave room to grow into heads and cam down the road?

sverble, newkid has stated he would like to keep his 009's,and 009's is not the injector to have for the the 61.as far as new tech is concerned had a 49 on my car for about 8 years and run 119+mph no problems with the turbo.

newkid, the 49/44 will cost you around $800 without installation, the 61 around the same add the ball-bearing setup add another $450 now add 60lb injecters, now add labor for the parts.things start to add up very quickly and if your looking for an upgrade with a budget in mind this is really a no brainer.

isnt a 3200 stall converter alittle high for a 49 or 44 turbo? i would think a 6131 or 6152 would be a better match right? i guess then though u would have to get some 60lbers to feed those turbos to keep them happy if he decides to turn the boost up later on!

johonneyttype,a 3200 stall works well with the 49/44.have a friend of mine that used to run a 3500 stall on the 49 to the low 11 second range.
