My TA49 (Garrett .63) has been on the engine for about 8 years and needs a rebuild. I can have it rebuilt for about $250. However, I talked with John at Limit Eng and he will rebuild and upgrade it to a TA60 for about $400. I'm wondering if it's worth the extra money to upgrade to the TA60 (or, TA61?). Any idea how much I'll gain going from a 49 to a 60? And, if I upgrade the turbo will I have to upgrade the injectors?

My combo is 90% street fun and 10% track and currently goes high 11s at about 117 MPH on Drag radials. I run about 23 psi boost max.

A TA 60 isn't going to give you THAT much of a difference over a 49...you may want to think about a more serious upgrade to a 67 series turbo...of course along with that you are going to need bigger injectors, stall, intercooler...etc etc....Of course if you are on a budget like so many others..rebuild the 49 and see how much further you can go on it...what psi were you running for those 11sec passes?

Good luck

My best pass was an 11.72 @ 117.8 MPH on 23 psi boost. I don't launch that hard and 60 ft was 1.77. I have just bought a set of the 60 lb injectors but will not upgrade the intercooler and definitely won't go for a higher stall converter.

So, what's the biggest turbo I can go with with the 2800 I have and still have the great street manners I have now?

Good thing you upgraded the squirters...but not moving to a higher stall converter may hinder you in your choices...

I have the same converter..but got it extremely cheap on a great deal..soo...

I would rebuild the 49 and keep whittling that time down..Ive seen some people push that 49 into the low 11's at 119-120 mph so it is possible...

Variety of turbos 61, 54..but you will experience a bit of turbo lag..but maybe if you have an RJC boost controller that could eliminate that factor...

Good luck...

Ray I know that you are looking to upgrade the current turbo, but i think that the new current crop of turbos would work great in your combination. A billet PTE 58-57 is capable of 605 hp, a billet 60-57 630 HP. This is with better spool up than prior turbos of the same size using your current converter.

Thanks, Louie. Appreciate your thoughts.

rayk, you can squeze the 49 for more mph and definetly drop the 60ft.the 49 with the garret housing is great for 60feet,inmo there is nothing wrong with maxing what you have for 250 bucks.the billet wheels are rated for more horses but will cost you alot more money you will need several mods to see the max horse capability.
