Will a TE-44 work alright with a stock converter? Or will it be really really lazy? Ive got a restalled D5 to 2800....but quite frankly I dont know how to install a new torque converter....and I dont feel like paying a shop right now.

My old 86 T had a TE-44 and a club red stripe convertor (D5, 2800 stall, lockup). Worked great, fantastic on the street. The only thing that worked better was an AC 9" non-lockup 3200 stall. This combo was better at the strip. HTH

There are instructions on here and gnttype.org that tell you how you pull the tranns and converter. Its very easy to do. Would probably take you about 2 hours if its ur first time. The TE-44 has been known to work well with a stock converter so if yours is restalled then you will be momre than fine.

I looked for instructions on gnttype.org...but couldnt find any...you wouldnt happen to have teh link would you?

What altitude are you at? Here at 4000 ft a TE44/D5 takes about half an intersection to spool up, and you have to powerbrake it HARD to get it spooling from a dig. Installed a 3000 stall & it's RIGHT NOW. A buddy of ours has been up here from Vancouver (sea level) with his 12.05 stocker & can't believe he can't spin the tires on every corner like back home.

1,200 feet above sea level

Anyone have any detailed instructions for installing a new torque converter?
