I have received some conflicting info regarding the TE44 turbos:

1) Does the stock cast iron exhaust elbow fit properly, including the puck? I've been told the "port matching" between the TE44's turbine and stock elbow is "poor" ...

2) stock wastegate actuator- does it fit?
And if so, is there a disadvantage?
eg , won't hold high boost levels or won't have enough range. My goal (on 110-116 octane race gas) is to achieve around 25 pounds boost.

TIA.

From the cars that i have worked on with the 44 turbo, lately it seems that the wastegate hole on the exhaust housing WHILE using the stock elbow with the stock puck, it will bind because the puck will actually stick inside the ported hole. "seems" the newer turbos come with a larger hole than factory stock. I tried 10 elbows and none worked on 3 different 44's..

Doesnt fit perfectly so sometimes it will bind cause the puck will enter the hole and cause a slow spool issue.

I would upgrade the puck size or drill the holes that attach the elbow to the exhaust housing LARGER to allow you to center the puck over the wastegate hole.

You can use the stock wastegate actuator, but will have to be inventive to fit it. I made it work with a longer bolt on the upper side and used a 5 /16 washer along with a 3/8 washer.. i know i posted pics in this section about a year ago to make it work.
I got 35psi with my 44, no problems that way
