I have a broken coolant temp sensor and want to replace it but all of the replacements are different from what was on my motor. My sensor has a 1 wire connector just like the knock sensor and all the replacements are 2 wire with a different connector. This sensor is connected to a solid green wire if that helps , but not sure if that's the original wire. DSCN0212.JPG DSCN0213.JPG DSCN0214.JPG

It's looks right to me. Highway stars has them. One green wire with a yellow stripe plugs in up top

there are 3 temperature sensors on the engine.

if I remember correctly:

#1 for the ECM (has 2 wires)

#2 for the idiot light (has a flat spade connection)

#3 for the fan delay relay. (has the knock-sensor connector)

I think the one you are looking for is #3,

Thanks 1952ray, I didn't know that it was a cooling fan high temp override switch. Is this sensor needed on a non-stock motor ? If not, does it need to be grounded or open (not connected) ??

Thanks Bob , I'm slow at typing . Can you answer my question ??

Lots of people don't run them, some do. Really a personal choice. I run mine. So I would think you could just leave it un-plug if you decide not to run it.

That's the idiot light switch comes on at 250 degrees.

Replace it.

If you put a ground on that solid green wire with the key in the ON position the dash temp. light should come on.

The high speed fan switch which activates around 220 degrees is connected to a green wire with a yellow tracer/stripe.

So if I'm running after market gauges with no idiot light can that sensor be deleted?

I watch my temps like a hawk on aftermarket gauges.....just might plug to hole.

I just looked again and it is a green with a faint yellow stripe wire.

That would be the high temp. cooling fan switch then.

If your fans are wired to run on high all the time you can delete it, otherwise it's necessary to switch from low to high speed fan operation at around 223 degrees.

If you have a manual switch or other trigger method you can delete it, grounding it makes the high speed fan relay activate.
