The forward clutch clearance is right on the high limit of the trans. I`m building. I have another press. plate but it is thinner. So is it acceptable to use the thinner plate & add an extra steel,by doing this it puts the clearance at .012 which is close to the min. of .01.

If this is OK to do would it be better to put the extra steel between the press. plate & friction or at the wave plate & the inner steel.

Yes & Yes. :p

In other words, it's fine to use the thinner plate/extra steel and it doesn't really matter where the extra steel winds up in there.

put the steel extra steel below the first clutch behind the pressure plate .this is a hot spot in a 350 and will improve heat transfer on initial clutch application and during forward ranges .also 12 is ok because the wave plate gives you an extra .030 when compressed so you can have 0 and still build oil up behind the piston when engaging drive by compressin g the waved steel in the fwd drum.www.ckperformance.com
