I'm going to whore this one out because I'm tired of stepping over it in the shop.

Built it a couple of months ago. Reverse pattern manual VB, 36 element sprag, deep aluminum, pan, Alto Reds, etc, etc.

Usually a $1200 trans. $900.

Gotta pay for the lathe I picked up today...

jake get a machinists handbook itll com in handy for speeds and feeds data.this info si priceless,or you can call me I have good starting points if you know what the material is you wworking on

Chris,
I bought a neat CD off Ebay with a lot of good machinist info. I've been studying it a bit at a time while training for the "other" job.

I will get a hardcopy though to keep in the shop.

I played with the lathe last night for a couple of hrs. Turned out about a dozen TH350 direct pistons for the 5 clutch setup, cut a TH350 drum for the big sprag, cut a TH400 forward hub for a torrington, played with a TH400 rear planet for a torrington and some lightening cuts, ran a cut across a 400 reaction carrier.

I got a steal on this lathe. It's in good shape, no wear on the ways, everything seems tight, got some tooling with it, steady rest, etc, etc.
The only issue it has is the motor was replaced and the new motor for some reason isn't stable. I believe it is a bit more HP, and it jumps around a bit and I think it is transmitting the speed fluctuation through the belt and causing some chatter on harder surfaces.

I couldn't get a good cut on the reaction carrier at first, I got it fairly good but not quite as good as I want it.

I'm going to brace the motor up or have the orginal motor rebuilt.

Now I just need to figure out what to do with the 10-12 trans cores that were stacked there
