Having some wheel time under my belt, I'm starting to see the same trends in my data logs. I get wheel spin on the initial launch, even with the front tires in the air. Sometimes the wheel spin is not bad but other times it definitely hurts ET. I'm thinking of going to a 2.20:1 first gear over the winter but also see there is 2.10:1 and 2.33:1 options. Because of the expense I want to do this once and would like to here opinions.

This is not really an option for me since I have a special prototype valve body with my switchable stall device. The 2nd gear leave would be to much for my heavy car anyway. I've left in second and the car labors to much through the 60.

The griner 1+2 is really only usefull if you change rear gears and run 1/8th mile. I have it and tried it for fun on the street. 1.48 is not enough ratio for a v6 with 3.50 gears.

I had a tci 2.10 set that I never used. My set had a runout/binding issue that I could feel, but tci couldn't. I finally got my money back and gave up on it. If not for that problem it would have been decent for the price. You just have to check them over well. The welding can be spotty according to what I was told.

You bring up a good point. I'm sure there are different manufactures making these, some supply each other, some just make them differently. I have not done much research yet but was looking at the sets on Coan's website and they are pricey at about $2200 a set.

I talked to Hutch trans about options on 2.10/1.40 gear sets. He was the one that told me what to look out for with the TCI sets. He said he sold two options. American made for $2200 (coan I assume) or a cheaper set for $1500. I don't know where Kilgore falls in there but his are cheaper than Coan.

I did figure out after the last track outing, the stock 2.48 gearset seems like plenty for me. I left at lower rpm 3200, with less boost (8lbs.) and still 60' a 1.31. If I can get the shocks right, I can start turning up the boost and leave at the lower rpm I think.

I think the 2.10 is a good choice but pricey for sure. Your also correct in looking at the shocks. Gear ratio changes the way you can apply power but you will need good front and rear shock control to control initial tire hit and application of the power.

Off subject dusty but sometime wish u would start a thread for setting up suspension and shocks. Maybe explain some basics. What to look for in tuning it. The good and bad. Thanks

I have AFCO's double adjustable set at there recommended settings. It definitely made a difference over the crap I had in there before. I can get the car on the back tires through the 60' but still getting tire spin when the boost ramps in. Track conditions seem to be inconsistent. Looking at the data, the 1-2 comes up real fast and the CO2 shifter is hitting the shift late. This is what prompted me to think in this direction.

The more expensive ones are straight cut gears, the less expensive one are heliarc cut. The straight cut gears theoretically could handle more HP.
