AAHH, "the Three Stooges"especially (Moe), a good one...

How about "The Rifleman"(western), and something that seems to be disapearing as time goes by..."Respect" in general, towards, your parents, an elder, your teacher. All you needed was "a look" to bow your head, and get you to "realize" , and yes, God forbid you answered back.
Sleeping with the front door of your house unlocked, many times open, nothing but an unlocked screendoor:) Biking all over the place. .05 Cokes in the small bottles, Coke floats, Royal Castle Burgers, "real music", power shifting, hair on your head, the "Pledge of alligiance", bell bottoms pants, red ring tires, real good tasting milk and butter, the word "terrorist" was probably not even in our vocabulary, our presidents could be frequently seen parading in large convertibles and on and on...

How about a few more items,

No self serve gas stations :) A real person would come out & pump gas..
I pumped gas in the 70's. Loved it when a short skirt would come in. I would be doing that windeshield real quick!

Snow Forts, We build some mother sized forts that if they caved in could kill you. They never caved in!.

Me & Pronto use to build a ICE BOB SLED track in his back yard.
We would Sculpt high banks & turns from the top to bottom.
We would send our sleds down loaded with snow to use a test pilot dummies. Then around 4pm when sun was out of site we would hose it down.. TALK ABOUT FUN & FAST!

We would also go to the Winchester Country club & sled all day.
Hundereds of kids running into each other.
I remember going clear through bushes into the brook. Yowza cold water!

We used to hop on to the local frieght before the line was abondonded :(

Playing street hockey for hours with no equipment.

Riding our stingrays over home made wooden jumps pretending to be evil Kenevil

enjoyed reading that. Sometimes it would be nice if life was as simple as it seemed to be years ago. When you could trust your neihbors, let your dog dog run loose, and not have to worry about somebody threatening to sue you for something petty. What happened to holding the door for a lady, or just a curtious smile and hello to a stranger. Thanks for the post and the memories.

P.S. When I was around 7 or so, I rember my Father comming in the house one night with a (Computer)... We were the big timers in town..... It was an (((((((IBM PC JUNIOR))))... Anyone rember them??

Yup, I thought 'Jump Man' was the coolest thing in the universe.

I'm 27 and I could make alot of jokes about Ensure and all, but the memories laid out by littlesixsteve are exactly how I remember things when I was growing up in the 80's. I really think that things have gone to hell in just the last few years.

I can still hear my father.......even if I had a gunshot wound to the head, he would just tell me to 'walk it off.'

Couldn't have said it better myself. When us "youngsters" can remember the good old days, obviously things have gone to $#!+ very recently.

Well "old timers" heh just kidding, iam 20 and must say i wish i had some of those memories you guys speak of, i always say i was born in the wrong era only because i want the oldies one of my fav movies "Amercian Graffati" i wish it was still like that with the cruise nights and everybody knows everybody because it is a small town living on the block where everybody knows me from my car, damn i hate these times, i hate new cars and i hate all this technology sometimes even though iam a computer technician what irony :) well back to day dreaming about the old times i was never part of :(

Ya and me wiping out like him too:D
What about prowelling the woods to find the hangouts of the older kids. It was like gold to find a Playboy or Penthouse mag in the pile of beer cans. You could spend hours carefully peeling the pages apart so not to rip them or have the ink be pulled off the page. The internet is too easy now for kids to get peek at some babas, we had to work for it.

LOL.....great stories cause they are all true.........keep em coming.

Gross! those's pages were not beer stuck

My dad had his personal stashes in many locations.
IE BATHROOM.
Some of those 60's Mag RAGS were in black & white, or so called detective Magazine

My favorites were Oui, Hustler.

Time of the Past.

I remember sitting in the old apple tree miles from our house in the abandoned farm, eating until we were sick. We use to walk miles from our house with no threat of death. We would walk miles down the railroad tracks to explore (cannt get lost if you stay around the tracks).

Today kids need to be taught respect - responsibility and recreation.

I to say most kids lack imagination, their mines only work with electronics and extra batteries. This brings me to this what about ADD ( hyperactivity) Thees kids need the country and a summer of no TV or electronics. Go camping, hiking and into the woods to find out who they really are. Or just a good smack'en
Spare the rod and spoil the child. By the way I turned out okay. I think.

I'm 37, but can say "been there, done that" to almost all the stories. AHHHHHH the memories!!!:D ;) :p

And we all knew wrestling was fake back then.

I remember BOSTON GARDEN 1969 (i think 69)

Bruno Samartino vs the Iron sheik in a cage match!

Wrestling was a lot less glitz back then

The treatment for ADD when i was young was a good butt whoopin!!!Now days it's a pill for this, pill for that and don't physically punish your kids!!!Geezzz!!Not in my house, butt whoopins are rare but are dished out when needed. For the politically correct butt whoopins are different than abuse.

Yea for sure. Remember those wrestling magazines?? wow talk about fake blood! LOL Only the weird guys would read those in schoool..

I liked Chief Jay Strongbow. I can't remember the other guys name but he had the heart punch.

Back then, instead of wasting time on a computer, or playing video games, we were outside playing football, or baseball until it was dark. At supper time my mom would have to call us in to eat, then we would go right back out. We hardly ever stayed indoors. Those days were great!!:)

Just turned 44 today on XMAS. I remember the whole neighborhood would play 'Kick the can' and we had a great time. You just showed up and you were in. We played pickup baseball, hoop, soccer and street hockey. If you weren't good enough, you sat, too bad. Better practice some. We rode our bikes to get around. Gas was 28 cents a gallon, and I could almost get 2 gallons for my mini-bike with 50 cents a week allowance for my chores. Life was good, and if you got too wise ass your dad would smack the living daylights outta you right in front of your friends. You had respect for others and took responsibilities for your actions. I try to bring up my kids with the same values. So far so good. :D

It really will never be the same. That is why i post so often on the maladies of growth. Growth =chaos. -period-
I can remember as a kid hearing over and over the teen next door burning out in his road runner. We just tuned it out. People are scared of their own shadows now.
You throw in lawyers, justices which trample the Constition, environmentalist and it is even worse. Notice that the Democrats never mention population concerns anymore. And the Republicans dont worry about our borders.
The South is booming , and it is becoming rude and stressfull.
