Just venting about the 86 gn........why did this car not come with a temp and oil pressure gauge? why did this car have terrible brake system? should of had non power brakes instead of the junk it came with.Should of had rear disc brakes...should of had full size spare considering it has a full size trunk??? terrible head liner...I am sure the 70 chevelle ss I used to have still has a good head liner.Tach and boost gauge is a joke. There is a dealer near me selling an 87 for 150K with 1600 km it has a cracked sterring ring on wheel.....mine has a good ring no cracks LOL

For what it's worth and after 38 years of ownership, I've gave up on ranting on the negatives. Buick's Fuel injection Engine, Transmission & Posi rear end was a plus in that era. At 71 years old , and when driving the old Buick, I get flashbacks of in my thirties out raising hell and having fun.

This is why we have and have had great vendors over the years.
For how special these cars were back in the day I can overlook things.
Anyway, they were a lot more high quality then the crap made today.

I dunno. My 1986 (in Nov of 1985) was $14,400 out the door (after negotiation). For that you get drum brakes, an experimental power brake system, Grandfathers gauges, ribbon tach (that was considered cool then BTW), and a jankey space saver spare.

Go look at the price of the 1986 Porsche 911 turbo then, or even the Corvette. I was happy to get what I got for $14k.

Ya, like looking into the future and seeing there are a lot of folks expecting to triple the power and not have issues with design limitations.

It's certainly easy to sit here in 2025 and talk about what GM should have done in 84-87, but the bottom line is these cars were pretty damn advanced for their time. Buick put out a hell of a product for everyone before the changeover to the fwd pos platforms.

Besides, anything that you dont like is easily corrected today

That's a great price if you weren't a GM employee . I ordered mine in Nov of 85 and got it in March 86 . $14,900 loaded , Astro roof , digital dash , touch climate control , I just checked off the all the options .....except the power antenna !! We made it at Delco Products and I knew that it was a problem !!

My first '87 GN was like that, loaded out bought used off the Buick dealer lot Aug/92. Contacted Buick and they sent me an options printout, something they most likely would not do today. My car was optioned with CF5 Astroroof Ventilation but conflicted with the power driver's seat, so my car did not get the moon roof. Apparently if you ordered the two, you got either one or the other but not both.

Wait a minute.... Is that why my RPO says CF5 but I don't have an astroroof?? I always wondered why that option didn't match my car, but everything else does.

Correct. If you have a power driver's seat but no moonroof, apparently that was a factory conflict so you got either one or the other if both were ordered. I asked a Buick sales guy about back 30 years ago, and he said it was just his opinion but he thought it had to do with potential issues with headroom for taller drivers and the room taken up overhead by the moonroof rack assembly.

Interesting. I ordered my ‘86 GN May 10th ‘86.
No power options, just posi, carpet mats, halogen headlights, EQ radio w/ concert sound II speakers, white letter tires, mud flaps and block heater (still in original zip tie).
I ordered it with a non-tilt column and the anti theft system.
Because I didn’t get power door locks I couldn’t get the anti theft system so the dealer added the tilt column to make the price the same. I assume they didn’t want to lose money.
$16,150 out the door. I got screwed!! Lol

My 86 had both . Maybe it was changed for 87 because of the reduced headroom with the astroroof and the power seat not as low as a standard seat . I'm only 5'7" and the roof was close , someone 6' or more would be rubbing !!

For me I could only afford select options. So, I only ordered 9 of them. It made for a $286 a month payment. I wanted it to look optioned, be lightweight, and do it inexpensively.

Posi, tinted glass, halogen headlamps, GN package, Tilt, Power windows, Cruise, Concert sound & lastly AM/FM with cassette radio.

Baller on a budget.

My Moonroof Limited T had both power seats and the passenger one reclined. Made it in the garage. My spare parts supply .
