Hi all, long time listener, first time caller ;)

Putting together a 200-4R for my LS1 powered Vega and have a question. I have purchsaed the CK performance manual (which is excellent reading!)and some other odds and ends and I am wondering, what are the torrington bearings that are used to replace the thrust washers on the center suport originally used in? Everything I read says that this is the area that is most needy of torrington bearings over the factory thrust washers. I have a machine shop as part of my reair shop, so machining is not a problem!!!
Any help is appreciated!!!

Mike,
IMO the most important thing to use a torrington on is in the rear planet carrier. Replace the weak factory thrust washer that goes behind the low sprag with the later GM torrington bearing. I don't have the PN handy but I believe 87 and later production units used them.

Some claim the thrust washer on the back of the sun shell to low support needs to be rollerized but a TH400 4 tang washer will fit here, however even the stock plastic ones hold up fine IME. The thrust loading on a 200-4R isn't putting load on that washer.

Jakeshoe, thanks for the quick reply. My unit is an '88 unit, so it already has the torrington behind the lo roller sprag. I have done several other 200-4R's in the past with the plastic washer there, and they were totally junk.
After reading CK's book and looking at the suggestions from WE4 in the stickies, they seem to make it look like that putting torrington's on the center support is a must? All my plastic washers in my unit were in excellent shape and showed no wear at all. My combination will be a LONG way from the 9's, heck I am hoping for hi 12's :), maybe I am just being to paraoid, or maybe I am reading too much:) Any other suggestions as far as thrust bearing and whatnot are concerned???

Thanks for the info
