This fin appears to have some kind of coating on it. Anyone know what this might be? Also, the shaft has noticeable slop in it just from moving it with my finger. Is the turbo shot? I was hoping to get by yet this year without a turbo mod as I have other things to do with my GN budget money. If its time for a rebuild what could I expect that to cost vs. a turbo upgrade. My long term (stress long) goal is to have a high 10/low 11 second capable car. It won't be driven at the track.

That appears to be a 60-1 compressor wheel. The paint mark is for identification by the manufacturer.

Ok, bear with me. I know nothing about turbos. Haven't started studying that yet as I'm still working on other parts of the car. I thought I had a stock turbo. does the 60-1 compressor wheel come on the stock turbo? What would you suggest I do regarding shaft play and ultimate goals?

If you can, post a pic of the turbo, the 60-1 could be on a mod'd turbo, but it's not stock. I don't remember what turbos used the 60-1 as I only ran the TE and GTQ series turbos. Other members can chime in when you post the pic to better identify the one you have.
Do you have end play or side to side or both?

On second look it is a stock compressor wheel

I would replace the turbo if you can. I just pulled my oil covered turbo out. Once I got the compressor housing off, I could see the serious housing-wheel contact. I am not sure how much metal made it into my intercooler..
