Whatever happened to the good ole' days of a TA or a TE 44, 49, 60. Nice an simple.

Looking for a new turbo now is like shopping for mortgage programs!

Looking to upgrade to a dual BB. Currently run a t63e w/50# inj, 3200 stall 9x11 tc, and alky. What's a good turbo for this setup?

New and improved GQXYZ Special and Secret Wheels

Yeah i was thinkung the same thing, I dont know what to pick! I think they change these names to confuse the buyer. I would really be pissed if i ended up spending 1200 bux on the same turbo! New and improved but if you look at some of the times in peoples sigs seems 12s and 13 are still the same as 15 years ago....

IMHO... .the very first thing one should do when considering a turbo upgrade is analyze the following:

1.) What are my (realistic) (ET/MPH) goals for this setup?
2.) What stall converter do I have or am going to have real soon?
3.) What is my budget?

Once you have these pieces... it narrows it down considerably.

HTH

I am in the same boat as you. With the new billet wheel stuff out there it really comes down to 5 or 6 choices as far as Im concerned.

6262
6265
6765
67HPQ
71GTQ or the new 71 Billet whenever it comes out.

I am stuck deciding between a 6265 in dbb or journal bearing 6765. I'll probably just go with the 6765 and get it over with. Might be more than I need, but wont have to work it as hard to reach my goals. I'll probably go with the .63 housing to allow quicker spoolup as well. My only concern is some of the boost control issues I have read about, as I am running a 3"DP internal wastegate. That is the only thing that keeps the 6265 with a .81 housing as a possible candidate for me. Just gonna wait it out and see what times people are able to achieve with both. Not a whole lot of info out there just yet.

I agree with this thought process but if you answer question #1 there is still a WDE variety of choices to get you there.

If you want to run a 12" converter and journal bearing the 44/49 with the Garrett .63 is still a hard to beat choice.

I think you need to answer all three.

Like.... goal: 10.90's
Converter: 2800-3000 stall
Budget: under $1000

Get the billet 62 in a journal bearing...... It's that easy.....

6765BB or maybe the 6780BB if you want to go really fast.

I should mention you will need more injector to max the power potential of those

Goal: 11.x/10.9
TC: 3200 Stall 9x11
Budget: Whatever.

I agree with Bison then.... the billet 67 DBB would be 9 sec capable..... get some of the new 79# high z injectors while you are at it....

What heads?

What is in the bottom end of the motor? If it isn't built..... you could become a member of the DOTCC..... if not careful.

I guess I should add.... since your car has only 10k miles...... you probably don't want to grenade the stock engine..... I recommend a different engine to build....girdled... steel crank and rods....good heads....

If you are doing this on the 10k mile motor.... IMHO..... be happy with a high 10 sec slip.....it is an accomplishment on stock heads....IMHO.....

Stock 10k mile car right now.

The plans are turbo now, girdle the bottom end, heads & cam over the summer and upg inj.

Just getting a turbo now that I can grow into. The car is only driven/raced a few time a season. So though it is an honor to be in the DOTC club, I don't think I'll make the cut! :)

Bison, Even more cofusing, Precision recommended thta turbo and it's not even on their site! lol Too cofusing! 6765 billet

How can this not be confusing? RE, Bearning, Journal Bearing, Boosted, man!

6176RE Jrnl Brg Boosted .63, .85 A/R
6176RE Ball Brg .63, .85 A/R
6176RE Ball Brg Boosted

I wouldnt rec the big exhaust wheel if you are not going to do cam and heads. The 6765 is way more than necessary for the stock cam and heads and not even optimum for the stock cam and heads. Keep in mind any of their turbos that list 76 in for the exhaust trim are the old less efficient exhaust wheels. The 65 trim replaces them. Not to say that you would go faster with the 65 but it will reduce backpressure if you are moving enough air. Which probably wont happen with the stock heads and cam
