Question for the masses...

I just got my combo back together (see sig) and can not control the boost. Because I'm still waiting on a stock-style wastegate actuator from Precision, I decided to leave the puck on the downpipe as-is and see how things went. Well, the turbo lag I expected...I did not expect to see 20psi when I let off the gas:eek:. You heard me, with the downpipe puck flapping in the breeze, I get 20psi plus!!! Is this normal given my combo? I'm terrified to attached a wastegate to the turbo/downpipe now.

without a wastegate in proper working order i am surprised it only went that high, but the pros will chime in.

why would you be terrified to put a wastegate on your turbo charged car?

The puck probably got pushed up against the port by the exhaust pressure. Then you have boost. Try tying it open.

I thought the principle worked in the exact opposite manner. More tension on the rod, more boost quicker. Less tension/no tension, the car should act sluggish and barely build boost if at all.

I'll have to give that a shot tomorrow.

Your 20+ lbs is typical with an unported wastegate hole and the puck disconnected on most any turbo above stock.
