No chit huh? Did anyone really think that was gonna work? Howbout pouring some water on it?:o:rolleyes:

They need to stop jerking around and spend some big $$$$$$$$ now before every fisherman in the Gulf is out of a job for life. What a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!

do you honestly think they aren't trying eveything they can think of? most of the people that are out there working on it live on the gulf coast, and i don't think that any of them want a huge oil slick in their back yard. they are personally invested in it.

no I dont think they are. if it was a spill near the White House im sure more efforts would be exercized at ANY cost. we will never know i guess

Hmmm I would have thought all of these years of Off shore drilling that ALL oil drilling companies would have had a back up plan just in case for an If, And or But of a worst case senario a leak would arise. For a Plan A,B,C,D, & F ya think?

Yeah, I can't help by wonder why this whole situation is reactive rather than proactive. I would've thought given all the negative press that the oil industry has to put up on a regular basis they would have covered their bases with some contingency plans.

They were forced by Government laws to drill SO deep for "safety" reasons ... hopefully NOW they will see that its SAFER to drill in shallow water so they could fix this type of stuff EASILY ---

"easily" is a relative term when talking about this situation. i don't think there is anything "easy" about offshore oil well drilling.

BP is not exactly going about this cheep. The best crews in the world are working on it. This is not an easy task. Money is not the reason this well keeps flowing.

I know some of the people and companies working on this. This is a top priority operation...nothing is being "left out" because BP wont pay up.

If this had happened near Washington D.C. the same people and companies would be working on it at the same costs.

We do drill in shallow water and have been doing so for several decades.
We know it's safer. The shallow fields are just getting tapped out.

The reason they drilled there was because there was a large reserve there.

Might be time to try the Russian method. Dust off some of those Nukes!

Was is definately the right word.

They also need to go into the unemployment center and get everyone of the unemployed out on the beach and in the marshes cleaning up for a decent wage!!!!!
It could get cleaned up pretty quick with so many people out of work.

you mean get the same people that wouldn't lift a finger to help save their city after Katrina blew thru to go out and shovel up oil?

I like how you guys that's are many states away are all "drilling experts".

You really think BP is not exhausting every effort/resource to stop from losing all their crude?? They want to stop the leak more than anyone.

I dont think anybody here is trying to be an expert on the situration. Being so far from it maybe hinders our views on it somewhat, I understand that.

But when we see 100's if not 1000's of people offering their help to BP, the Govt, whomever, and see little but no action it is frustrating.

Maybe we are so far away from it, we are not seeing/hearing what you guys are. Can you fill us in on what is going on better?

Thanks!

Down here the focus is on what impact the spill is going to have on the shrimper's, oyster fisherman, and the fragile marshes along the Gulf coast. People down here are no different than the rest of the country, fed up with the whole disaster. Everyone wants the leak stopped, but that's easier said than done. If anyone thinks BP is not doing everything they can, they're mistaken.
The problem lies 5000 ft below the surface of the gulf. The attempts to isolate the well have never been done before, so they're trying unproven (at that depth) methods to stop it.
Believe me, I'm more frustrated about the whole disaster than you guys. But drilling for oil in the gulf is needed. If we had to import the same amount of oil, the price of gas would make it impossible to enjoy our turbo regals. We'd only be able to afford to use transportation for necessities. Then the economy would end up in way worse shape that it's in.
The long term impact on Louisiana's gulf coast will be severly impacted because of this disaster. Seafood is a major natural rescource for the economy down here. That's projected to be gone for years.
The government will force stricter policies for new wells being drilled, costing the oil companies more money. That is then passed on to the consumer.

Sorry for you gulf coast guys, looks like 2 1/2 more months......

It's a HUGE effort and we are trying our best. We see lots of action and many unemployed are back to work.

If people want to help they should set up funds to help the Fishermen and their families. Leave the kill and clean up to the experts.

Do not use the media to sell a half baked, get rich quick plan to the general public who have no idea what is really needed.

I/We that are not close to the situation cannot fathom what you all are going through. Thats why I asked for local input.

Being part owner in a family business I understand the grief side that is hitting all the fisherman. Saw a guy interviewed the other day, his Grand Father started and Oyster harvesting business, then his dad, and now he has taken over. He said he is probably out of business forever now and I would imagine there are 100s like that........ So Sad!!

I have a friend who is involved dealing with the situation and he had to go make a statement and his personal view on the subject at the white house, he is currently representing BP on the matter, he said that the top kill was not going to work no matter how much mud or concrete they pour into it, his recommendation was to hire German, Russians and french engineers to get their expertise and deal with the situation, but our damn GOV and BP are so damn stubborn they ignored his suggestion, he also said that the only way they could probably deal with this was to do what the Russians did back in the 70's when they had a similar issue, (use a NUKE to cave in the shaft and seal 4ever) He also mentioned that the situation is 100% worst than what the GOV and BP are telling the public, BP mentioned somewhere around 100,000 gallons per day but its more like 400,000 , He also said that we have another 30 off shore drilling platforms operating that could explode at any time and create the same situation as the current one that we have in the gulf.. :(
