My friend just took his 96 in to the dealer to have it checked and they said it was fine. This truck has 218,000 miles and driven in Chicago winters from the day it was new:confused: He drove this truck into the ground and back out. This truck runs like new.I dont think he has ever washed it:eek:

It could be that Toyota would be up a creek if they had to *fix* everyone of those with a safety defect and rusted frame.
I agree with most of your post. Toyota didn't have to do this IMO. They probably did it to stem any future class action suites due to it (we're a sue happy country ya know:rolleyes: ). Hell, a '95 is now fourteen years old and a '00 is eight. Long out of ANY type of warranty/coverage.

Don't forget, your friend has the next 15 years to take advantage of this. Not 15 years from date of production, but 15 from this year on.

A guy at my work got 12k for a 1997 tacoma with 160k on it a month ago, I looked on craigslist to see if I could grab one to take in!

A girl I work with had one of the trucks and that was the first and only time I had heard about this besides this thread. It's amazing how something like this from a non-American company can stay so quiet, yet GM or Ford has a problem and it's everywhere. People think Toyota's are the best quality cars ever, but they've had tons of recalls on pretty serious things in numbers much larger than any American company, yet people still think American cars are all crap. It's pretty nuts!

I agree. Honda is also very good at keeping things quiet. I guess that is what separates those companies from the rest. I have to admit they do take care of customers pretty well.

Google this.........tacoma rust buyback

I did, and found this...
Toyota's quality is slipping. I worked for them in '07 and saw the workmanship of the vehicles decline from the '07 to '08 models. After I left Toyota, I jumped ship to the superior mid-size truck
And lots of pictures... YIKEs
