...to find a good, solid '86 or '87 GN or T-Type for $6,500 or so?

I'm not talking about show quality, just a good, solid running car with 80,000-110,000 miles, no rust, decent interior and paint, etc.? Hardly needs to be perfect, just respectable looking paint that would be OK for a few years. No or very little rust is a big deal to me though.

I have a neighbor who is extremely interested in my Jeep, and I think he's getting ready to jump on it. After I've gone through some of the debt I want to pay off (Small loan, 46 in Hitachi :D ), I'm figuring I'd be left with about $6-$6,500 left to look for a car.

It seems like most of them I've seen for sale are either basket cases, or very nice and in the $10,000 and up range :(
You guys think I should hold out until winter to get a better price (which would also give me a little time to save a few more $$$)? Is there a "bad season" for sellers of these cars, that I could capitalize on, lol?

Hardest thing to me seems to be finding one even remotely near Pittsburgh PA. I've been lurking the cars for sale sections of a few boards for a few months, and it just seems like Pittsburgh isn't very TR friendly, lol (Or the people around here who have them...keep them ;) )

Thats funny, because it seems like every time I look at anything Tr related its always in PA. Kirbans is there, you might check with him, but he's pretty high on price. You should be able to find a nice TR for around $7K. T types seem to bring less than GN's, so that could be a route to save you some money. Keep looking, they are out there....

Here is one!

Just got off the phone with a local guy selling his '87 T-Type which is in your price range. A no rust, desert car!:)

Contact me direct for more info.

lol

I've owned three of these cars so far, and I've NEVER bought one that was even in the same state as me. When I lived in MI I bought one in PA. When I was in SC, I got a GN in FL. And now that I'm in CT, I bought this one in NH.

Sometimes you just gotta make a roadtrip for it.

It's a buyers market for sure. Lots of nice examples and some are very reasonably priced. Tips: Read as much about them as you can and get familiar with them. Don't be in a hurry, there's lots of these things running around, like 35,000 86-87 turbo regals built. Some people desperately need to sell their car, some are just testing the waters to see what it would bring. Most important is to buy the most original unmolested stock example you can find. Stock ones with 100K can be had in nice shape for 6500, just need to keep your eyes peeled. Regular turbo regals and t-types are cheaper, if I could do it over I would get a stock WH1.

Hope this helps

You should be able to find a good example of a T-Type for what you want to spend. Now is usually the time for the best deals as Summer is over and alot of people are returning to school and need the money. The best advise I ever got was to not be impatient and buy the best car you can afford and have money left over to add items to your personal taste. I spent about four months looking at different TR's while watching the want ads in your local area. Eventhough there were over 35,000 86-87 TR's built, it's sometimes hard to find a TR in your locale. Depending on where you live they can be far and few inbetween !! Expect to do some traveling if you expect to find what your looking for....unless you are one of those that always have the luck !! There is a good article over at the GNTTYPE.org web site on shopping for a TR. Good Luck in your search !
Darrell.
