4 inch built in maf/translate, warmed up its reading anywhere from 9 to 11, toss my stock maf back on and im at 6

tried many adjustments to my switches, idles like crap, pulling fuel but i stick my stock maf back on and idles great, int and blm is 126 to 128 with tps at 42 and iac at 22

spring is here and im back to scratching my head with this translator

wonder if im in the right area to post this

What version of the translator do you have?

If you purchased the 4"MAF pipe and translator at the same time you are likely OK in that respect and the issue lies elsewhere.

But if not, the older versions of the translator may not support the 4" MAF.

A good place to look and to pose questions is on Full Throttle's tech site:

Thanks for the reply,

Its brand new version bought in Oct, just before I put it up for the winter i was having same issue, thought I had it corrected but i guess not.

I just got back from ride first day since having it put away all winter with my stock maf in and oh it runs sweeeet, I have Alky comming on Fri, I do have my Alky chip in but I just pulled some timing to run it.

Anyway I go back and try the 4inch and translate and same issue, maf reading is way high @ idle

Can you tell us what switch positions you tried?

The MAF base would should make the biggest difference in idle quality. There are many adjustments on the translator, so if that doesn't work you may have another issue.

Also what are your dip switch settings?

Are you using and extender chip or a standard one (Turbotweak or something like that)?

Mike, yeah sorry, settings are squared away.

TT chip: 1,2, and 3 are on...4 is off... version 6.25

Started with 4inch base setting 9...way outta whack with maf reading of 12. So I set it to B with 10% lean, cleared the brain and still way high on maf reading 8 to 10? and pulling fuel.

Went back to stock maf and wala..smoooth, maf at 6...02's fine...nice CC's took it out and it ran strong

So im dumbfounded

So am I. You're settings are exactly right and so is your troubleshooting.

The question is now, is the MAF pipe sensor faulty or is the translator unit faulty.

Do you have a known good MAF that you can beg/borrow/steal ??? If you try that and it works then it would be the sensor.

Conversely if you can try the sensor on someone's car with a good (and correct update) unit and it works, then it could be the translator....

Edit: you know just for fun, maybe try the 3", 3.5" and 85mm MAF base settings and see the effect.

Mike..lol ya know I tried the 85mm setting (7) 10% rich...Nada so went back in and tried a few more settings while resetting my IAC/TPS...still nothing

put my stock maf back on, reset brain, re set my IAC to about 23 and runs great...down the road sweet, no bogs, hesitation, no nothin... runs good with stock maf

im stumped...or just stupid..lol

You're hardly stupid, you are doing everything right.

The key thing here is that your stock MAF works, so at least you have isolated it to the translator/MAF combo. Also of interest is that the MAF reading you are getting is relatively high for idle (should be around 4-6) and the ECM is likely fueling for that.

Is there anyone in your area with a known good Translator/MAF that you could swap out to determine whether it's the Translator unit or the MAF itself?

yeah with my stock maf im getting around 6....5...then 6..in that area.

put the translate on and wow 9, 10, 11

I dont know anyone around here I can swap out a translator to see if thats the issue. I put a note in to Mike@FTS to see if i can send back to have tested perhaps?
