Tree removal - am I getting ripped off?

Having a tree guy who seems reasonable take about 6 trees down tomorrow. 3 are pretty big, probably about 75 ft tall, 18"diameter. His is taking away all the wood and chipping up a bunch of branches and brush I have cleared out from the woods behind my house. He has done work before for me and prices didn't seem too bad but for this job he wants a $1000.

Now bear in mind this is in CT where everything is expensive. Any tree guys on the board in this area?

I had some done several years ago here in N.C.---$1k seems very reasonable for what you have listed.

Fire Wood

You could have him bring it down and cut into shorter length logs. Then run an ad in the paper for free or low cost fire wood. Just a thought. It's still cold out.

I sort of thought it was a fair deal since he has done some work for me before. My next door neighbor was telling me that he is ripping me off since she had like 6 trees taken out supposedly last year that were bigger than mine and it only cost her $1300.

She was going to have my guy do some for her and he didn't want to as I guess his partner had a runaround with her in the past. Maybe she is just pissed. She was telling me she had a receipt for the work but then also said it was a cash deal so why would she even have a receipt?

The trees I am having taken out can't just be cut down. Has to be a bucket job.

As far as saving the wood I can't be bothered. I have a fireplace but just put those Duraflame logs in it when I want a fire.

Didn't give him a beer but I did help him load up some of the wood. This spot I am clearing out is for a pool for my son but damn, sure looks like a nice place to put up a 2 bay garage.

You can bet that he is going to cut all of that up and GIVE it away as firewood, right? I am sure that the reason that you got that good of a price is that he was planning on selling the firewood all along. Figures.
