TT 5.7 chip / gear reading?

My 87 Camino had nearly everything from a T type from the dash forward swapped over...one thing that wasnt was the shifter ..my set-up has no N/saftey sw. system at all.. i think i had read that the safety sw. was involved in chip knowing which gear car is in? If i am wrong..still I am wondering if or how my chip/ecm knows what gear i am in?

The TT chip uses MPH to calculate gear. The ECM uses the park/neutral switch to change how fast the IAC operates between park and drive. However, you might not notice any difference.
