turbo 400 long to short shaft?

Im more of a chevy guy and chevy 400 were almost all short shafts. Ive found that most BOP 400 were long. My question is does the trans mount change position when converting to short? And is there a better way to go short or long? Im getting ready to mock my engine and trans and would hate to set for long then have the trans built and switched to short and not fit the x member.
