Is the mounting bracket for the turbo needed? I bought a new TE60 from a TB vendor and it doesn't have the "dog ears" tabs to mount the bracket. I called the vendor back and was told that the mounting bracket is not needed. I just want to make sure. I don't want to crack the headers or oil lines.

Thanks,

Tom

Should be alright, plenty of support considering it's bolted to the header and is clamped to the intake and intercooler pipes.

Yes you need it for a driver.

Full out race car probably not.

What turbo is it?

Some vendors I believe sell the brackets, I call them the star brackets for mounting the turbo to the main turbo mouting bracket.

Some come with studs like the stocker and some just have holes in them you use bolts with.

I took a Turbonetics TE60 off of my son's car and it had the bracket so I'm sure it's available.

I'd be reluctant to run it witout one. Seems that the additional support was put there for a reason. IMO.

it is needed if you take it off and you are beating the piss out of it all stress will be on the turbo exhaust flange where the turbo and exhaust bolt together

If you have poly engine mounts you should be ok without it. I have run for 7 years without one on either car. If you have stock mounts and no donut gasket at the exhaust outlet then you may have a problem from the engine twisting and trying to lift the exhaust via dp. GM used the gasket to eliminate torsion in that area. If you want to see what i mean have a friend build boost and watch the engine torque over. Its pulling hard on the exhaust when it does.

Also I have a 3" THDP SS. I called the vendor a couple of time and asked if the bracket was needed and the answer I got was, no the bracket is not needed. I just want to make sure. Thanks for all of you replys.
