Just got off the phone with Kevin who sounds like a nice guy. Anybody ever use this place? I know nothing about the shop other than it is a NAPA repair shop that specializes in our cars. I am looking for someone local to me in Clermont FL as my regular guy does not want to play around with anything turbo related.

Hey Steve, I used KDK for some minor work and adjustments about 1 1/2 years ago. Their work is acceptable but they were backed up when I dropped mine off and it took several weeks to get the work done. In Kevins defense, we did order an Alky kit so that took a few days. There are probably 15-20 TR sitting around his lot and knowing how picky you are, you probably don't want yours witting outside for a week or more. You can probably schedule an appointment and have minor work done while you wait. Plus they have a Dyno and can tune it for you.
I have heard good things about Don Cruz but I think he is more into the high end high performance stuff.
Good luck brother.

Dan

Nothing specific at the moment. Just want to know where a decent mechanic is before I need one.

Are you mechanically inclined enough to tackle some of the jobs? Kevin is a good guy but he runs a busy shop.

I need my Powermaster fixed or replaced. Blew three fuses this past weekend and I DO NOT like NOT stopping. Kevin at KDK stated replacing the unit with a vacuum one would eliminate my issues and nobody has complained about the feel. I have read in other post that the vacuum system just does not work that well with our vehicle due to the inherent low vacuum to begin with. I can also have the car flat bedded to Cruz performance in Tampa but it just adds to the cost. Anyone had the conversion done by KDK or Cruz, feel free to PM me. I do not plan on using the car until this issue if fixed as I enjoy living! LOL

The Turbo T/A's came with vac brakes as well as the Syclone/Typhoons. With a check valve that prevents boost from going into the vac booster they work well. There is the manual brake option also.

Did you end up using KDK for anything? I'm in Mt Dora area and am in the same boat as you, I actually just replaced the powermaster in my car with a hydroboost system works great.

Was recommended to a local guy I never knew existed who put in the conversion system with pedal I bought. Everything works like a charm and the fee for install was very reasonable. Nice having brakes that are predictable!

Was the mechanic a turbo Buick mechanic or more of a traditional one?

In east Orlando and do ALL the work on my uncles 87 and my 86, perf, maint etc etc. There are a lot of TB guys in the area, I can help you out with whatever you need, be it work needing done or just a helping hand and some advice. I also transport cars for a living so if you need your car moved just let me know. Have a 2 flatbeds and 4 enclosed truck/trailers.

did you do his brakes?

did you do his brakes?

No, his car and mine as well actually already had vacuum conversions done one them. I did so the blazer spindle/brake upgrade on his though.

I did the B body front brakes on my Monte. Kind of regret that decision though

Sounds good, I picked up this car about 8 months ago was pretty bone stock so it needs all the typical stuff a 30 year old GN needs..I already did chip; MAF & translator but it has cracked header an had vacuum leaks so it's leading to some tuning issues with the car..so far seems pretty typical; one job I am not looking forward to is the timing chain replacement - I feel this is out of my capabilities.. I can handle some bolt on type stuff but that's about it

Did the TC in my uncles and mine....it's messy, chances are the factory rope style front seal is still in there and by now, it's probly not doing much sealing.

My car runs high 10's on a stock long block other than the TC, valve springs and head gaskets. Uncles runs mid 11's with the same minus the HG but with a smaller stock appearing 5858 turbo.
