Maybe, do a volt drop test, before changing the blower?
30+ yrs on the wiring, grounds that are nasty, etc, won't help with the performance.

If the screw was stripped out on the plastic one, maybe the shaft was actually slipping on the fan. Maybe it wasn't turning at the RPM it should have been.

I was thinking the same thing
