Turbo mush

I've been reading threads about turbo's I would like a turbo that appears relatively stock, internal wastegate, 4" inlet, works with my Kirban's 2 pc 3" downpipe. Was looking at Full Throttle's PTE GT6157BB as I was hoping to keep my stock converter. However I will be rebuilding the engine and putting in a new cam, and I see that you can have converter issues with the cam as well.

Why stock appearing? A 4" inlet won't look stock. I also believe that at this point, a stock TR is more rare than an 83' vette.

a GT6131 looks stock, a TA49 is stock appearing but old technology. Neither require a restall.

Don't buy a turbo until you know what cam you will be putting in. Try to get the best of the combo you plan on ending up with.

Good points. I was meaning stock appearing to those who don't know TR's... So some bigger pipes and a couple of extra hoses - a 5.0 or a LT1 won't know the diff.

It's going to depend on your converter and it's stall. If you go 3k or 3200 you can run pretty much anything up to 67mm without much lag with the mods you have. The PTE62/62BB or 62/65BB is the badd boy I'd get personally.

So your kirbans downpipe retains the stock 90° elbow? I would pick a turbo that would work around your goals. No need to go real big since you only have 009 injectors and a factory elbow.

Lots of cars running quick with other supporting mods before a large turbo upgrade.
Buddy of mine went 11.3 with a ported stock elbow and a pt51 turbo 5 years ago..

Agreed, but upgrade the jets to 60#'rs. You will run out of fuel quickly.

Ok that's the kind of info I'm after. I want to get rid of the stock elbow! It leaks like a muther f'er. So do I need to change the downpipe to get away from it? I'm so done with trying to save money on this thing... Give it to me straight doc!

Get a 3 or 3.5" downpipe....90 degree angles and flow create backpressure and lots of heat. Any sudden change in direction robs power.

60# injectors have wonderful driveability and give you a little room to grow.(actually a lot depending on what your goals are)

Post your turbo thoughts and we can give you input on what stall converter you will need to achieve what you want (if any at all).

Get a 3" stainless steel downpipe, a 6131 turbo, 009 injectors, Julios meth kit, stock convertor, and a TT chip. Once you get tired of 11 sec passes, get 60s, a larger turbo, set of heads, and trans and convertor.

I would really like to buy just one turbo, and I want to get rid of the stock elbow. Maybe I'd better fill in all the blanks. I have a few threads going on right now. I'm rebuilding the engine and want to get it all over at once. So here's what I'm looking at. Boring the 109 block 20 over, forged pistons, what to do with the crank? Stock? Stroker? Rods? Girdle, Caps? What Cam? New chain & gears. What to do with the heads, port them or buy? BB Turbo - which one? Stock location Super Intercooler, 4" maf, rebuild tranny. Converter - 3000? 3200? Then get to know it, run conservative - take is slow, and let the good times roll... (American Pie anybody?) Injectors if need be. So I'd really like advice on the big scale - I just thought I should break things up a bit in the different sections. Lastly, I'd like to build it to be able to run mid or maybe low 10's - some day. But like I said, I don't really want to buy components over and over during the trip.
