turbo shaft play?

installed new te-60 from john craig last year. about 1,000 miles on it. checked play while doing other work. no in and out play, which i know should be none. but i do have side to side and up and down play. is this cause for concern? especially since there's only 1 k miles on it. just wondering if the play will get progressively worse.

Hi,
your main concern is in and out play being at a minimal.every turbo i have ever had and from what im told by the "experts" you will always have a certain amount of side to side and/or up and down play.this is a necessary clearance the turbo needs between the bearings and the shaft for the oil to properly lubricate it.dont get me wrong here,there is a point were there is too much play but there will always be a certian amount of it.if your turbo isnt acting abnormally or leaking/burning oil then it is probably ok.
