There is some discussion about the possibility of the blanket heat soaking the cartridge due to it keeping the heat in.

when i first looked at these things a few years ago it was also mentioned. something to the effect of "caking". I have searched a lot on the subject and what i mostly find is "This happened to my cousins dads brothers sister in-laws uncles friend"
If you have any links that i might have missed please post them up.

Bison had to replaced the bearings on my turbo after 500 miles. Not saying it's the cause, but only variable was the blanket.

Thanks for the info
At the same time you have this
I have had it installed for 3 years, I don't drive in the rain, it looks like new still. I put them on every car I build.

I'll PM Bison and ask whats his take on this stuff especially since the guy thats going to fix my turbo when it takes a dump.

Like I said, it could have just been a coincidence, I ran the turbo blanket on my 71 and there wasn't any issues.

Your ex side was hot enough to burn all the plating off the bolts and a lot off the clamps. Not typical to see that. The bearings were replaced because i could see the heat transfer spots on them. Not because they were out of spec or failed. A water cooled cartridge would reduce cartridge temps a lot and eliminate just about any chance of soak back heat issues. Its all theory until someone does a soak back test with actual data logging.

Why not ceramic coating? Or exhaust rap or some kind of heat barrier on the inside of the sheld? Just drunk thinking here.

I have one. Keeps the under hood heat down some, and covers up the rusty turbine side.

So if it keeps the heat down, then where's the heat going? For the under the hood temps to be actually reduced, the heat has to be evacuated out to somewhere other than the engine bay. What's doing that?

The heat stays in the turbine and exhaust, which helps spool up and exhaust velocity. Measurable hp? Doubtful. Spool up is slightly better. The passenger side fender well and coolant jug stay cooler after a WOT blast. I have been running a turbo blanket and wrapped downpipe since 2009. Have not had a turbo failure or problems with extra heat in the exhaust (or any other failure for that matter).

My under hood temps are crazy.
So bad that i am not running any alky because i am concerned that it can be trouble.
I HAVE figure something out-- Move the alky tank to the trunk?? Some one that i highly value his opinion says not to do that.
Move the battery to trunk and move the alky to the battery spot?? creates other issues on a part time track car.
This turbo wrap just about solves the issue rather easily and cheaply (as long as the turbo doesn't fail because of it).
Bison price me out for a water cooled upgrade along with the stuff we talked about--What do you say?

My tank is in the trunk of my Mustang. Zero issues. Actually side benefit has been I can get the pump out in less than 2 minutes. Since 2008 like this.
