Just a quick note to mention the winners and runner-ups from the Turbo Thunder IV event in Woodburn, Oregon.

There were over 40 Buicks on the grounds, 35 of them were racing. We had descent payouts, and as they say...a good time was had by all (even in the heat!)

The payout was boosted by Gene Fleury who donated $50, and another $50 from T-shirt sales by a group of outlaws that are known asl the Black Sheep

12.00-14.99 Bracket Winner - Rob Stariha ($150)
12.00-14.99 Bracket Runner-up - Michael Cathey ($40)
7.50-11.99 Bracket Winner - Gene Fleury ($155)
7.50-11.99 Bracket Runner-up - Scott Hogan ($40)
Best BUICK Reaction Time Steve - Murdock (.500)
Quickest ET-Buick Stock Block - Ryan Guy (9.96)
Quickest ET-Buick Stage II - Dennis Hogan (9.71)
Top Speed (Buick) - Dennis Hogan (141)
BEST STOCK APPEARING BUICK (Show) - Matt Brunsak
BEST MODIFIED BUICK (Show) - Adam Nonis

The weather was VERY hot but we made the best of it. I'll try to post some more info and hightlights (written) from the event when I'm less tired :) If anyone has video, pictures or info from the event please post it!

Goodnight!

Thanks for all of the work you did putting on this event Dave. :)

I was happy to run the new best times in 90+ degree heat...... and to see Ryan bust of that 9.96 made my weekend.

Did the peanuts fly after we left dinner?

Thanks for another great event, Dave & Kathy.

I left early as I couldn't do the heat. When I got to Troutdale, (50 miles north on the river) I asked a guy pumping gas what the temp was there. He said 105°. Dunno if it was that hot at the strip but I'll betcha it was close.

Congrats to all the winners and thanks again for your hospitality.

Yes, thanx again. I had a great time and enjoyed meeting everyone. Now I can put some faces to the names, which with some of you isn't a good thing. :D

It was nice to see more cars this year:) Dave you did a great job again and please thank your wife for all her time.. I never got to tell her and should have taken the time to:( Im sure you and your wife would rather have been racing your Mid 10 sec GN:)
What can i say but a .6 RT best after 4 rounds and i win:eek:
You guys must suck if i can win:D :D I had a great time:cool:

Thanks for putting on a good event Dave! Sorry, I couldn't make it to the dinner. Just too long and too hot of a day for me. I'll be posting what little video I managed to take later tonight.

Big thanks to Dave & Kathy for putting on another great event. It was great to see all you Washington, Idaho and Oregon guys again (even though some of you probably don't want to see me and the TTA ever again ;) )

Thanks also to Geno for providing the only shade at the track and having an endless supply of water on hand. I'm sure he prevented alot of cases of sunstroke and dehydration.

Outstanding event again this year, Dave and Kathy. Thanks for all your efforts.

I made it into the semi-finals after 3 rounds of the other guys red-lighting. My clean, shiny 87GN must really intimidate them :D I know it can't be the rippin mid-high 13's.

Had a great time visiting with everyone. Great to see an even bigger turnout than last year.

I second thanking Geno for the shade and cooler. Couldn't have made without him.

Rob, I'm definitely tired of running against you and your fine TTA. Two years in a row you knocked me out. Congratulations on winning back-to-back years! We're all gunning for ya next year.

Looking forward to Turbo Thunder V

Thanks for putting the effort into this event Dave. I know how it takes alot of time out of your life to put something like this together, so thanks again.

Of course, busting my tranny on the 2nd pass was not exactly what I had planned, but as Darcy would say " that's racing"

Thanks also to Geno for the great hospitality at the motorhome. Hopefully we can show you the same hospitality one day when you're up this way. Carla and Tucker also thank you for the use of your a/c in the motorhome. It certainly kept Tucker from overheating. A black dog and 95*+ temps = one boiled dog, so thanks again. :D

Does that mean your engine is doing great?:)

Sorry I missed your call today, will be gone again tomorrow in the AM.

Nancy and I drove to Woodburn drags running our trusty Z06 in a matter of 8 hours and 30
minutes we covered 650 miles in that time:).
We were on drag radials the full duration. It was a very nice
drive, there's lots of trees and the air was actually a lot fresher
in the grand state of Oregon than some places in the Bay Area.
Additionally, there's no sales tax on anything as all of you are aware, so we also visited the Outlet stores that was only 2 miles away from the strip...well Nancy convinced Shawn
and I to do so;)

I ran pretty good up there even though the temp was in the mid to high 90's...I failed to turn the A/C "off" on my first run as follows;

12.64 at 114 (I got beat by a 60's Pontiac running 11's)
12.3x at 114 (smoked a C3 with a 406 running 12.63 at 111)
12.28 at 114 (.509 reaction)
12.5 at 111 (I redlighted) :(

There were lots of turbo Buicks representing the Pacific Northwest, counted about 35-38
of 'em. Nice setups, great paint jobs, excellent engine bays and
well-tuned motors. Lots of owners from different states were represented, Oregon, Idaho, Cali, Nevada,
Washington, even British Columbia.

Got to meet some really kewl people there, Dave Loney, Gene Fleury, 200$ Steve, Terry Ryan et al.

Cars ranged from T-88 equipped stock blocks, to Staged cars, and
included a Typhoon and a Syclone. I'm certain that you will see times posted on TB.com or other, the majority of the cars were solidly in the low 11's lots of 10 second passes too. A Stage motor in the 9's and a stock block also in the 9's that was kewl. Oh ya, a 260Z with a stock block TR motor was running 10's too.
The IdahoGN car was doing low 11's at 120 to 125 mph, but it was in need of some tuning since I've seen the car run high 10's on an aborted pass at 4000 elevation not so long ago.

We left the event with memories (and some video footage) of a really classy event and with plans to and race again next year.

We caravan'd with Shawn on the way back to the bay area. 9hours and 30 minutes for a total driving mileage of 1389 miles. We're having swap meet at my house for parts and cars.

We saw lots of CHP on the way back, but we didn't meet any in person (knock on wood):)

Turbo Thunder is a great event and Dave and Gene are a class act, and looking forwared to seeing them at the Vegas strip in October.

Chris
I just wish i could have spent some time BS ing with you:(

Clayton and Carla
Im sorry to here about your trans but its all part of racing these cars
:D

dave, gene and everyone--had a great time and ran my best ever 10:46 and finally hit 130 mph! it was a blast. i'll be back next year. it was worth the 2421 miles round trip. i have a few photos but cant post on this board for some reason. look forward to seeing you guys in vegas thanks again--len

Gene: I'm sorry we couldn't exchange a few racing stories, however for the several minutes that we stayed after IdahoGN got his rig squared away, you and your buddies were a kewl group. Next time I'll take the Friday and Monday off from work and plan our trip in advance.

Terry: I'm also sorry that we missed the invite to dinner that night. Get ready for the violins.....I was at work on Friday, got home and packed at for the trip to Woodburn. We didn't leave the house until 11'ish pm. I drove all night with a 1 hour nap at exit 188. When we made it to Woodburn, and I missed the exit because I trusted Yahoo driving directions over IdahoGN (I won't make that mistake ever again), and promptly checked and tech'd my car for the 2nd round of time trials....(violins OFF). However, I did click off a .509 light in the Elims:)

Dave and Kathy and all who put TT4 together

many thanks from the owner of the "slow" white TR...LOL.

In the pits, I heard someone say that they saw my car run thinking it was one of Dennis Hogan's cars, and were worried something was wrong! :D

It was my first run ever at Woodburn - I almost didn't go because the car wasn't where I wanted it to be tuning-wise. I'm really glad I did, though! Met some new folks...finally met Geno...and Chris Cairns helped me work out a few bugs in the pits again. Thanks, Chris! Also saw some really cool setups. Adam's Hybrid T is just incredible!

A really, really fun day!

Just got back from a 7 day trip riding ATV's at the coast. I'm overwhelmed this year by all the kind words. Thanks back to all of you from me and the wife. We do a little work to put on the event, but all the effort is really put out by all the racers and "crews" preparing their cars, loading them on trailers, or packing them for the road trips, paying for gas food and hotels to make the event.

Len I was flattered that you'd make the tow all the way from Vegas to attend the event. I hope the 10.40 and 130 helped make the trip worth it for you. I saw the 10.40 pass and was really happy for you!

Chris it was great to meet you and Nancy, I wish I had more time to ask you what its like to take an 8 second trip in a GN but as you could probably tell I was running around trying to act like a self appointed "race director"

I'll be typing up all the Best ET/Speed numbers that I have for everyone as soon as I catch up from vacation. We also have some ideas for changing the after-race festivities for next year.

Thanks again to all of you who made it to the event. It was a great turnout this year and I don't see how I can get out of trying to do it again next year!

Dave, Todd and I are working on editing that public access TV show for St. Helens. We got some pretty good shots and just a small bit of detail, the opening is a bunch of shots of just the GN's put to a heavy guitar version of the Imperial March from Star Wars. Also we are going to mix some other songs in. I should be about a half an hour or more. We are hoping to have a copy playing in my portable VCR at the All-Buick show in Brooks on August 10th. I will let you know when it airs. It will be a couple of weeks do to more editing still to come. Also we are looking into having copies available for purchase but not sure yet.:D

Pat,

Please have at it! There's no copyright or other restrictions related to the event so come up with whatever you want, and charge whatever you can get. I know I will be first in line to get a copy since I did no videotaping myself.

It's almost worth the trip North just to see our little event air on TV!
