I just got my Turbo in, guy cleaned off all rust, Put a new center, turbines wheels, shaft,better seals, 360 thrust bearing etc. looks really good:biggrin: . Now that its clean, i want to paint it. I have hi temp engine paint, will that work?? i read alot up on TR boards it will just burn off or flake or something, is this true?? I have seen in order to get the best results, you got to bake it. If not will the paint start to burn up and smoke if i don't?? I plan on using aluminum semi gloss. just need some quick feedback,

ON another note, my old TB, the bracket on there was BENT. It never had 100% WOT it didn't open all the way. I had a spare from my extra TR engine (which i plan to sell)and saw that it opens all the way and had a good working TPS. I cleaned it up with HI temp aluminum and it looks great brand new. I thought my car was fast and i didn't even have WOT i say i only have about 65% give or take. Now it should work way better:biggrin:

I used Duplicolor clear engine enamel on the compressor housing, and my intake also. Eastwoods high temp header paint on the exhaust side. I tried the VHT "flame proof 1500*" the first time on the exhaust side and it lasted about 1 minute before it bubbled and flaked right off.* The Eastwood stuff is by far a better product. Still looks like I just painted it.

LOOKS GOOD Thanks for the info, i used engine hi temp on the cold side, i saw VHT but didn't buy it, good. I know you can paint pretty much anything, so would the paint stay if i were to toss it in the oven(not house) go through the steps like i were painting headers? Well i would like the hot side to be black, i think black and sliver would look good

so if i use my 500 hi temp engine paint on the hot side it will pretty much be a waste???

Check Eastwood's website. They may have it in other colors. This is the cast iron color. I had mine torn apart completely...(I rebuilt it)...so I was able to bead blast all the parts. Then I just painted them...no oven...including both headers and the DP. HTH ---Keith

Thanks ,yeah my turbo is blasted clean n ready for paint but didn't know if i paint it them put it on the hot side would just freak out n burn/flake/smoke off thanks for the info again, i'll post some new pics when im done.

Duplicolor makes 2 types of hi-temp paint....a 500 degree and a 1200 degree..........I used the 1200 black on my exhaust housing 2 years ago and it still looks great........if you use the vht, it will turn a milky looking color after it heat cycles a few times........I know O'Reilley's carries the 1200.....just about everyone else carries the 500........good luck.

Duplicolor 1200 yeah, i asked about that at autozone guy say all they have is VHT so i didn't buy it. Hmm sounds good i want the hotside black.

I only wish I could get that too work!
The 1500F VHT did not last on the headers at all either.
My EGT's are around 1500-1700F depending on boost, etc.
