Ok, call me confused but what happens when the butterflies are open and the turbos start making boost????

Looks alot like Rick Dobbertins (sp?) car from the late 80's early 90's. He had a Pro Street Chevelle show car back in the day then later built an incredibly wild Pontiac J2000 that the rear tires were so wide he had to have them custom built. I believe both cars were twin turbo'd and supercharged small block Chevy's. He seemed to have a thing for that. I remember the cars were in a lot of magazines and usualy stirred up some debate about why you would have both as it surely wuln't run great. Obviously he did it for wow fctor and to win shows as he did.
I don't know for sure if it is his but looks similar.

That reminds me of this one tractor series of racing. They take some tractor(I'm not talking about the tractor pulls you see on t.v.) motor, and boost the crap out of it! I'm talking 60+psi:eek:
They have one turbo that feeds into another turbo, or a turbo that feeds into a blower, and some crazy stuff like that.....anyone know what I'm talking about  I saw them at a show once...a long time ago(in wisconsin of course;) ) just seemd like a good time to share:)

Did they ever get it to work?

From what I have been told, they are not doing much with that car right now. Other obligations.

Those are pro stock and super stock pulling tractors. I don't miss the local pulls. We farm so I have an interest in tractors with big turbos as well as Buicks.

The alcohol tractors run around 80 psi but the diesels usually run a 3 or a 4 stage setup which will make around 250-280 psi.

On the 4 stage setup, the first two turbo's T together and discharge into a larger single which then discharges into another even larger single and then on to the motor. Water is injected after the first two turbo's to cool all the heat made by this much boost. You should really go through the pits and pay attention to these machines. The pits are actually the first place I saw a block girdle that is the same exact concept we use on our cars. They take a motor that makes around 100+ horsepower and modify the stock block to make well over 1000 horsepower.

Yep that Ricks old Nova. I seen it at The Maryland street machine nationals way back in the day.. Nice car but I believe that the turbos don't do much.

Mike Moran was building a quad turbo car to run NMCA at one time. Don't think they ever got the combo sorted out though. Not sure what came of it..

Wow! and everyone thought I was wasting my time rading those mags.:D Must have been good for something, maybe long term memory or phtographic memory.

Anyways, Ithink the consept, besides looking cool is that the supercharger would handle the low end grunt and help make up for turbo lag then the turbos would spool and :D :D :D
That is if you could get it all to work togeter of course;)

I was in moran's shop about 2 months ago
& I'm pretty sure his car still has 4 turbos on it,it sure had a lot of pipe going everywhere. I'm gonna have him do final assembly on my motor when I get to that part of the car.

what kind of times did that car run???

and i thought some one.. i think Bugatti (sp???) was building a quad turbo car? not sure though....

The rumors on dobertin's cars back in the 80's was the turbo's where Wheelless. He never ran any of them so it wouldn't matter if they had wheels or not.

Typical 80's excess. His cars were the "Hair Bands" of the show car circuit.

I have that magazine with that car in it somewhere around here. I think that all was mainly for show, and not a real dragstrip car. From wat I remember in the article, after that car hit the show circuits, everyone was going into that sort of complexitiy. Sure looks good, though.

The ford GT-90 also had a quad-turbo V12. It was basicly two twin-turbo V6s fused together. I imagine 4 turbos are more of a headache than anything though. Two gets the job done just fine :)

I knew that it had to be Dobbertins as soon as I read the title.
That J-2000 he built is insane, but yes it is a showcar.
Rick has certainly got some skills. He lives not too far from me. He also built the Orbiter, which was basically an all purpose land, sea, vehicle that travelled the world.
Anyone who has ever seen this thing knows that this guy definately has got some talent for building and fabrication.
Last I knew from him though, his marriage was in trouble and I think it finally ended in divorce. He has been occupied with that, and I don't think he has done much with the cars lately.

I know my wife would divorce me if I started talking about driving around the world in a converted 1959 Milk Truck Tank.

His latest Project is a Hydrofoil Car/Boat.
