Hey everybody, new to the trans forum, but here is my prob: Car only goes forward, and I think it is skipping first, not sure though. There is no reverse what so ever, and to top it off, there is no park, only the locking mechanism. The car says in gear and cannot idle, and there is no neutral, only forward. I dropped the pan, and you can see for yourself: Http://hometown.aol.com/racemybuick/

That black stuff smells like burnt eletrical wiring, and I am under the impression that that is clutch friction material....am i right?

After hearing that, got any diagnostics of the prob? I am in no way capable of rebuilding my tranny, and my only limitation to getting it sent out is price for a good rebuild. Any help on anything for this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

John

sounds like the forward clutch plates are burnt and frozen to the input ring gear .if they dont release the reverse sun gear cannot be used to drive the rear ring gear to generate reverse reduction to move in reverse also the car will try to p[ull forward in park and neutral as the clutch plates are driving the input ring gear thus transferring motion to the output shaft without apply pressure present in the forward drum www.ckperformance.com.get ready for a rebuild, sorry.

wow...

sounds like a lot. I know about half of what you said...any ideas on where to start?

John

I think he said your forward clutches were slipping so badly that they welded to the steels that they are stacked and should float between when not applied. Your tranny "sees" the clutch as being applied as when in Drive. That is why it is bound up (in forward and reverse at the same time) in reverse . A total rebuild is needed. :(

verify all the symtoms we have stated and if they are all there you need an overhaul.if you cant find a shop that is up to the task we can set you up with the proper parts and info to get the job done or a complete unit for your car.parsippany nj is about 45 min from us.www.ckperformance.com

rebuilding

I know I can get help rebuilding my unit, but if all you say is true, then I need to tear the entire thing down and start over...right? If so, what kit is out there that can take the street/strip beating, and possibly 430 hp? Is there a book on rebuilding the trans step by step that I can get to guide me?

Thanks a lot everyone!

John

rebuilding a trans is no easy task. however you will be ahead of the game with our stage 2 o/haul kit and 300m shaft fwd drum .as far as manuals an atsg will suffice for an o/haul but following the tech provided here will give you a great foundation for building a great 2004r .www.ckperformance.com
