Hello all,

I'm a new member here and just got my car tuned by KDK in Orlando FL.

I am pretty unimpressed with the results, they are closed now but I was told it was putting out 270hp to the wheels at 21 lbs with a almost perfect a/f ratio.

Mods are as follows;

1985 Buick T-Type

1987 ECU
Spearco Intercooler Part # 2-135
Turbo Turbonetics, Cheetah .63
Razor Alkyl meth kit
GReddy Profec B2 Boost Controller
Kenny Bell Headers
Kenny Bell Air and breather filters
Walboro 340 Fuel pump
Hot wire kit
Extender Chip
2 ½ straight dump downpipe
MSD 50 Lb injectors
Lt-1 Maf
Translator
Bosch Adj fuel pressure regulator
2004R Shift kit rebuilt with all new performance parts
2800 Torque Converter
Camshaft 231t 0.519”
V-8 Radiator

The motor has been rebuilt from top bottom, i was hoping for mid 300's or close to 400 to the wheels.. is this an unreasonable expectation?

please provide some input.:o

whats perfect air fuel ratio? need more info.. log data file from a scan tool

Dyno

What is perfect air fuel ratio, everyone does'nt know how to tune a turbo buick. Probably left a lot of hp on the table. Also were you using race gas or pump gas? What's the timing in the chip? All these questions need to be answered.

This post is really ugly. Alot of money thrown at the wall and it will stick in the long run but not for now. My only 2 cents is that the alky kit needs a special TT chip. Where are the scan tool numbers? No mention of this. The HP at the wheels should way above 300 hp. Bad tune amoung other things. I can only offer simple help with this one.
Good luck- Brad

P.S. It can be be done but you need do to your homework first. A good example is a neighbor of mine newly met at a local car show. He has a stock 87 and wants to get into the low 13's but has no clue as how to do it. Very simple. Too many mods too fast is a nightmere.

For all the guys suspecting the shop isn't familiar with turbo buicks: while I have no personal experience with KDK in orlando, I beileve they are known for being one of the best turbobuick shops in the area. I seem to remember reading a few posts talking about them having multiple TR in their shop at once, and specializing in our cars. Maybe I'm mistaken and thinking of another shop, but if I'm correct, I doubt the expertise of the shop is the problem... or maybe theyre just used to the IC cars, and arent so sure on how to handle a hot-air? Just throwing some possibilities out there.

All,

sorry for the crappy post. i was ranting and raving after finding out.

the shop specializes in turbo buicks.. its all they do.. which is what upsets me I guess. Everything has been rebuilt better then new and has less then 2,000 miles on it.

I think something is up with the ecu, or it might need to be re-burned.

the runs were done on pump gas. (93) the air to fuel was 11 to something

the chip is the extender tuned for
  • 98 octane with 50lb injectors.
  • timing is 23 advance low gear/21 high gear.
has waste gate settings but i think this is circumvented with the addition of the boost controller these are;
85%/80%
redline is a little over 6100

I'm going to check flow numbers and see if i might have a massive boost leak when it gets back. I'm also thinking of eliminating some of the parts, putting the stock chip back in and maxing it out before the addition of the methanol.

im sure with more data, we can help get more HP out of your turbo buick.. some scan tool data would really help or your dyno sheet with Wide band

I will be picking up the car next week and have the scan master along with a laptop.. i will get the appropriate files.. thanks for the help guys.

i know its not a 500hp beast but should be hitting mid to high 300's

Now the real culprit. I don't think you could expect more than that from making those pulls on pump gas. 21 psi is really high for pump gas with no alcohol. I would'nt be suprised if you were'nt getting some kr. Add the meth and I guarantee your numbers will be higher. The only time I ever went to a dyno I pulled something like 240hp and 330-40 ft lbs of torque. This was in hot air trim on pump gas and 18 psi with far less mods than you. So I believe the pump gas and high boost is killing you.

boostmaster:

In his original post, he said he has Razor's Alky system on his car.

What was your torque? I remember the Cheetah turbos from the old days but isn't that smaller than a TA49? For what it's worth, my car was trapping 110mph with a VERY similar combo but at low boost, ~13psi. Not sure what 110mph equates to hp wise but I would suspect with another 8psi it would be well above 270hp. Intake manifold is pretty restrictive also but I suspect it can make a bit more than 270 unported. I made 602hp a year and a half ago with a worked stock manifold so it's not that bad.

Flaboy Guess you did'nt read this part of his thread. And he has a 98 octane chip.

I've attached the direct scan file from a quick full throttle run i made on the way to the office this morning. as well as the dyno information from the shop.

any help would be greatly appreciated

I'll bet that if you run a bit fatter in the A/F (about 10.5), lower the timing, more alky, and add boost, you'll hit your goal.

11.3 seems a bit lean....although it varies from car to car.

thats what im thinking..

is that 11.3 A/F with alky ? if so, thats too lean..

shoot for 11.5 -11.8 with out the alky..

then 10.5-10.8 with the alky

when i got the car back the alky was turned almost all the way down..

anyone check out the scan master file yet? i think it might have a boost leak.. i will mess with it when i can.
