Up vs. down shifts

My up shifts are very soft regardless of how I adjust my tv cable. My down shifts bark the tires when manually shifting. Is this normal? I’m getting a new trans is less than a week and I’m nervous there could be something else wrong with the car. I just don’t want to put another trans in if not necessary. Unfortunatley I've already done that once.
