Vehicle VIN# Stamped on block?

Need help. Looking at 87 GN with some miles, but in good shape. Seems unmolested, but want to be sure motor is #'s matching. Where is the VIN stamped on these motors? Will it be the last three digits like the trans? Also, does anyone have the original alternator code that is stamped on the case? Trying to be sure the obvious parts are correct. Thanks in advance. Mike,

The last digits of the VIN will be stamped on the block. The pad which it is stamped on is vertical on the drivers side just forward of the bellhousing. As far as the alternator goes I've really never paid that much attention to be truthful. The same digits of the VIN will be stamped on the trans. case on the drivers side pan rail.

Near the second bolt up from the bottom of the tranny to engine area.

Flat vertical boss there.

Take a rag with some solvent, a mirror, and a flashlight to help find it and read it.

Stamped with about a 10 font, real small and hard to read.
