Here is the story, I had a known good 2004r from an 84 ttype. I had driven the car alot and knew the trans was good. I pulled it to use in my 84GN and while it was out I had a B&M shift kit put in. I had a shop swap the transmissions for me and the shop guy called me today and told me that the trans is in a forward gear all the time. It feels like it is in park but when the engine starts it pulls forward. The linkage seems good and feels like the shifter moves through the gears like it should.

The trans probably sat unused in the parts car for a year before I pulled it out to have the kit put in it, but before that like I said it worked fine. What could be the problem and how do I fix it?

problem fixed

Ok the problem fixed its self. Now shifts into all gears and shift kit seems to be doing great. The only thing that I can figure is that mabe the bands or something had a little rust and were sticking together and finally worked themselves loose. I'll put a few miles on it and change the fluid and filter again just incase some debris was shaken loose. Anyone ever had this problem?

I did the same exact thing with a th 350 trans. It ran perfect...I took it out of the car and had a B&M shift kit installed by a trans shop. The tranny sat for about a year..when i re-installed the trans it shifted forward very nice and barked the tires...but chatterd really bad in reverse??? When i took it back to the trans shop who installed the shift kit he told me the trans was no good???

Sometimes the new oil and the detergent in it can eat the face off friction plates that are marginal.Very common with the reverse frictions.

I guess thats where the theroy.."never change the transmission fluid in an old trans" only add" comes from....but the trans wasnt that old?? ne way I wonder if there is a fluid that has a low detergent content?? srry dont mean to jack your thread....trying to help
