POR15 requires painting if you want it to stay good. It breaks down under sunlight. If you want a really tough finish you can get oil based enamel from tractor supply. It's basically the same as marine paint and once hard it's really bonded well. Tractor supply is clearing out their valspar stuff so you can get it for $24.99 a gallon and it comes in flat, gloss, and semi gloss as well as other colors.:)

The Master Series stuff looks interesting . does it have to be sprayed on ? I can't find any info on site on how it is applied . does the Tractor Supply paint show up brush marks ?

I used it on my canoe several years ago and thined it down so it would go on easier. The paint's faided now after sitting in the Texas sun for 6 years now and being hunter green, but it's never chipped off even running over rocks in the river or lake. I used a roller and brush to put it on and it's smooths out as it dries unless it's really hot and dry when you paint it.

hello; I did paint my frame in the areas I could with Por-15 that I brushed on in the past. Maybe poor prep or what ever but it has begun to peel off in areas if that's any help. I put in on straight out of the can. That was like 15 or more years ago.
have fun.

I am using Rustoleum Gloss Black. It looks good and you can match it again and again no problem. Using a foam brush mostly, spray can in hard to reach areas.

The Master Serues could be rolled, sprayed or brushed on. You apply the silver base coat then you top coat it with your final goal. I did my open trailer and it still looks good. I used the UV stuff on it. The trailer sits outside 24/7.

I had the same peeling issue with POR-15.

Eastwood Extreme Chassis Black is better than either VHT or POR as far as the finish goes. I've never seen anything done with POR15 that looked good to me. The key to any finish is surface prep. The Eastwood stuff goes on nice especially if you lay down a base of their black primer before top coating.

I stopped into a local restoration shop this morning and got talking to the owner . They use a product called Sem Rust Shield and swears by it . I even got to see a frame that was done in it ...VERY NICE !!!! fraction of the cost vs POR15 , Eastwoods, etc ( I picked up a QT each of paint and primer for $45 shipped online . Did a little research online and it gets great reviews as well . I'll give it a try and let you know how it turns out . :) Thanks guys .

SEM is the balls. Many snow plow guys use it on the frames of their trucks for protection from rust. Wear gloves, if not you'll be wearing it for weeks.
