The lowest edge of the shroud vibrates extremely noisily while idling or under power. While the car is idling I can grasp the middle part of the shroud and vibration stops. What have folks done to stop the vibration of the shroud?

Just a wild guess but maybe try a small piece of dynamat. You can even mount it in the inside so you wont be able to see it.

What is dynamat? Also thought about tack welding a thin piece of stainless steel between the upper and lower edges which would stop the vibration and still allow maximum air to enter. Thoughts?

How about installing a short piece of flexible tubing...vacuum hose , etc....(maybe 1/4" or 3/16" diameter or smaller) & slit it on one side.
Install it using an adhesive so it overlaps your aluminum shroud. This should keep any contact points isolated from any vibration.

Just throwing this out there!

It's a large flat panel it will vibrate. They call it "Boom" or "Drum" mode in modern NVH analysis. A little time with a bead roller would add enough stiffness to prevent it (but it may also alter the dimensions). Or a bedliner.

I used some Plastidip on a tool box drawer that made it feel sturdier. It's cheap and if it doesn't work you can peel it off

Mine vibrated on the bottom where the shroud contacted the I/C. I sealed it with a piece of Nashua HVAC tape. Couldn't see it and it stopped the vibration noise.

It's just an adhesive sound deadening material. It's used mostly inside the car to stop body rattle and when people put in stereos where the bass is going to rattle. This would work just fine to stop the shroud from rattling as long as its not in contact with something other than the intercooler, then you would need to find out what's its contacting and get something inbetween there.

If dynamat would work, that would be much easier then bolting a reinforcing bar across the bottom like we have done? :)

I ran electrical tape around the intercooler top and sides where the shroud sits on and it stopped my vibration and rattles

Nick, Pittsburgh Kid, Dan, Aminga and 1kwik6- thank you for the input. I bought some dynamat (kind of pricey) from Pep Boys and am installing today. Will let folks know if that stopped the embarassing vibration/noise.

I don't know how much you paid or how much you bought but you only really about a square foot and they sell them on eBay for $12 a square foot and you can buy just one square foot with free shipping. Either way I hope it works for you.

Those with vibrating aluminum shrouds. Applying Dynamax (speaker/vibration reducing material with an adhesive which you peel to apply- from Pep Boys, $20) did the trick. No more loud and attention getting noise. I applied a 2 inch strip on the top and bottom of the bottom edge. I have some left over so if you are in the So. Cal area, shoot me an email and I will be glad to share.

You mean dynamat. Dynomax while they do muffle sound I don't think they would work in this case. Lol j/k glad my idea worked for you.
