I am looking at a 2005 Jetta TDI with 90,000 miles on it. Just looking for the good and bad about these cars. This car has the 5 speed auto in it and the guy that ownes it say's it been getting about 40 miles to the gal. Just looking for something to run back and forth to work and run kids into town and back that gets good mileage. Thanks Troy.

Friend of mine just got a new one and told me he's getting close to 50mpg. They seem like great and reliable cars but I haven't had a VW in many years

The only problems I've heard of involve the auto tranny and egr system.

Make sure the timing belt and water pump have been done. 40mpg is low for that car. My dads neighbor has an 05 and it gets 51mpg. His neighbor really dosnt drive fast so that might be why. Make sure the front end is sound also. The drain for the ac liks to clog up make sure its clear.Lots of eletrical stuff in floors that dont like water like the bcm under the driver seat.
Watch for aftermarket radio if it has one.lots of installers like tapping into bus line which sends 12 volts down a line that 2 1/2 volts belongs. Other than that its a great car. If you do buy it go to Ross-tech and check it out. Its real close to vw software. Good luck
