I'm tired of crappy iphone photos. I know in the hands of an artist people can take really nice pics with a good camera phone. This may sound like an instant gratification question...... Is there a camera "for beginners" that will let me take great pictures? Ohhh yah....I dont wanna spend a lot of money :)

Dont mind a Used camera either.

Canon T3i DSLR w/kit lens(es). Brief feature explanations built into camera itself; turn feature on, explanation pops up on LCD. 18mp resolution and also shoots full HD video. Craigslist has 'em used starting around $300 and going up. Next gen brand new is T5i which sometimes runs on sale at Costco for $600-800 w/2 lenses. Wife uses hers for kids and school classroom activities/historian photos. Auto settings make her look like a competent enthusiast (she's far from it). If you know basic photography principles (f-stops, shutter speeds, ISO ratings and their relationship to each other), you've got it made. Check out YouTube reviews for plethora of accessories and uses...

I have seen the Canon t3 dslr for around $300. Is this inferior to the T3i? The cheapest t3i I can find on ebay, craigslist and amason is $400.

Anyone have some artsy pics they shot with there camera? Know nothing about cameras. Of course good pictures come from good picture takers. Looking for something that will make me look like a hero to my wife. She is always complaining of our camera phones being to dark or too bright or too blurry. Just not the quality she wants. Really have a problem with our camera phones.....the light is never right. Also, If I did get into photography.......are any of these cameras upgradeable?

I've got a cheap Nikon from wally world Ryan. It does vids (not great ones) but it does take decent pics. I think I paid around $120 and it uses AA batteries so it's easy to keep it working. For some reason I can't upload a pic but in most cases it does just fine, and fits into my shirt pocket.

Here are pics.
A Nikon 3200 is a great starting point.

Your Nikon pics look good. Cant find any within my price range locally. Lots of REBALs in the exchange and on craigslist.

Get on eBay and get yourself a Nikon D40 with 18-55mm VR lens, and the 55-200mm zoom lens....very affordable and a real light all around DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) This cameral has 6.1 megapixel image with a 2.7 inch LCD screen......it's been a great all a round camera for me....I've taken all of my pictures with it and swear by it....cost a fortune new, but now you can get the who works for under $200....just make sure the shutter count is low on it before bidding........I'm not kidding, I've used this camera since new in 2007 and it has never failed.....comes with a battery, charger, strap, caps, and built in flash.....not hard to figure out....menu shows how to do everything, including how to lighten or darken you shots....plus, it has automatic focus and manual focus, and self timer.....the book that comes with it explains everything well....you don't need a high megapixel camera, the 6.1 meg is perfect for sizes up to 32"x28" with no loss of clarity.....I want a Nikon D7000 but can't find a reason to ditch the D40! It's that good. And very light.

Bruce. Those pics look good. Question.... what is "shutter count"?

Shutter count is basically the number of pictures taken. The more pictures taken, the more wear on the shutter mechanism.

soooo an odometer for your camera..... what is considered a low shutter count? Does it depend on the brands? Also were do I look? Is it in the digital menu?
