I'm surpirsed you could buy a kit from Jegs or Summit because for a long time you couldn't get the metric alternator. If they have them now, it's good news.
Depending on how much money you want to spend, I would get a new Powermaster one from Summit. That's what I'm going to do on my next car. You can get either a polished or chrome unit.
200 amps if you want (but not sure if that one comes in chrome).
Not sure if Kirban's uses new or exchanged units, but when I got mine from Bowling Green Customs, they used exchanged units. They said they rebuilt and tested each one, but they were full of sh*t. I got one that was completely dead - it didn't put out anything. And I gave them one with 12K miles on it in exchange, so I took a screwing on that one. Personally, I'll never buy an exchange unit from any vendor (no offense to anyone).
If your alternator is in good shape or recently rebuilt, the best alternative is to take it apart and have a good chromer do it.
When you get ones from other sources that you can't control, you rely on whoever they are using and the quality of their work.
I've seen chrome quality vary a real lot.
Finally, the alternator rebuilders I have talked to shudder when they see the chrome ones. They say it keeps in the heat and wears them out faster. I've heard people contest this, but I think that have a valid point.
