Give them a call maybe they discontinued it. I bought mine a couple years ago.

There are several places to order JUST the casing in chrome from.I think jegs and/or summit have these kits.I spent like $55 for the kit and $30 to install on my good working stock unit.Just an option---and not $200+ dollars.
If you don't have a working unit---you can get one on this board from one of the salvage suppliers or i noticed one on e-bay recently that went for under $20.
HTH.
I had mine put together at a local ALT. shop.

I sent a stock one out to Street & Performance of Mena Arkansas, they do a lot of street rod work and are true craftsmen. They completely polish the case first to remove all casting flaws and THEN they chrome it. Most of the stuff you would get from a Jegs or Summit probably wouldn't come close in terms of finish. Got mine done a few years ago and think it was around $200 or so. Ya get what you pay for!

Chromed alternator....

I took my stock alternator, disassembled it, sent it to the chrome shop where they polished it and removed all the casting flaws, andchromed it. when i got it back, I reassembled it , and put it back on the car. That way, if your stock unit was working fine, you should have piece of mind knowing that it will work fine again, once reinstalled...I even have a few pics if someone is interested....

'bye!

I'm surpirsed you could buy a kit from Jegs or Summit because for a long time you couldn't get the metric alternator. If they have them now, it's good news.

Depending on how much money you want to spend, I would get a new Powermaster one from Summit. That's what I'm going to do on my next car. You can get either a polished or chrome unit.
200 amps if you want (but not sure if that one comes in chrome).

Not sure if Kirban's uses new or exchanged units, but when I got mine from Bowling Green Customs, they used exchanged units. They said they rebuilt and tested each one, but they were full of sh*t. I got one that was completely dead - it didn't put out anything. And I gave them one with 12K miles on it in exchange, so I took a screwing on that one. Personally, I'll never buy an exchange unit from any vendor (no offense to anyone).

If your alternator is in good shape or recently rebuilt, the best alternative is to take it apart and have a good chromer do it.
When you get ones from other sources that you can't control, you rely on whoever they are using and the quality of their work.
I've seen chrome quality vary a real lot.

Finally, the alternator rebuilders I have talked to shudder when they see the chrome ones. They say it keeps in the heat and wears them out faster. I've heard people contest this, but I think that have a valid point.
