looking for a good an alternator think mind is going bad SM reading 12.4, what would be best an good price would a ls one fit?..

I was also experienceing low voltage issues.....often going as low as 11.2 volts.

Check all your grounds first! Be sure there is no corrosion on these too. This would be the very first thing I would do. If you want, add more grounds, (you can't have enough on these cars).

If that still doesn't clear up this issue.....you can always run larger gauge wire from alternator hot side directly to battery?

I did all the above and even though my stock 120amp alternator bench tested OK, I eventually changed over to a 140amp AC/Delco alternator for an SS Impala from AutoZone. Even has a lifetime warranty! Think I paid about $125. for it.

No looking back, all the above has fixed my low voltage problems. Now I get 14.3 volts at start up and has never gone below 13.8 volts when hot and lights on. :)

get your stocker rebuilt at a local rebuilder.. for not much more than a replacement from your local PepZone, you can have everything rebuild with premium parts and upgraded for higher output by someone local who's personal reputation is on the line.

X2 Have it rebuilt by a local rebuilder with premium parts.Do a search no need for bigger alternators:biggrin:If anything add a volt booster and call it a day

my car reads 11.9-12.4 on the scanmaster but at the battery its actually in the high 13s. I hotwired the ecu and ignition and called it a day

IMO the best thong to do is rebuild your stock one. Order the parts you need and rebuild it yourself. You probably will need a voltage regulator. The stock 120amp alternator has great reliability and will cover almost anyone unless they have a large amplifier. In that case you need to look into higher output. If you want high output with a stocker you will likely use low rpm voltage. I would not buy a remanufactured one from a parts store. They have a lower life than a properly rebuilt unit.

reman parts are just garbage to begin with. I took apart 3 alternators and made one good one for my iroc and it lasted way longer than the reman one I had. I think I got one whole year out of it. That wasn't even drive time, most of the time the car sat.
